And with that, we come to the end of the halfway mark of the round-robin stage of IPL 2024. Gosh it has flown by quickly hasn't it? Another day, another innings of destruction by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Orchestrated yet again by Travis Head who has taken to IPL 2024 like a duck to water. No half-measures from this batting lineup and it's going to take some stopping them. How are bowling units going to plot them down? Slower surfaces? Funky fields? That's surely going to be something to watch out for in the second half of the round-robin stage even as the Sunrisers surge to second on the points table with their net run-rate receiving a massive boost.

As for the Delhi Capitals, it hasn't been a happy homecoming. They just haven't been consistent enough across departments and with a fifth loss in eight games, they can barely afford to put a foot wrong with just about every game now a must-win encounter. They've certainly looked better than they did at the start of the tournament but time is running out and they need to make winning a habit.

Travis Head is of course the Player of the Match for his ballistic innings of 89. Here's what he has to say: (On receiving back-to-back Player of the Match awards) Yeah it's nice. We're on a bit of a roll here. The boys are playing well so it's nice. (What's the secret to his ball-striking?) Just staying still in the crease and trying to watch the ball hard. I guess when you're in form you try and keep it as simple as you can. (On batting with Abhishek) Very (enjoyable). I said it last game, first time we saw some spin in the powerplay. I've seen in training how good he is against spin. (Does he want to be out there bowling than being subbed out?) Markram probably pips me there (with his off-spin). I think that's the beauty of it, it's just hard to pick who makes way. (On his form) Everything's all been coming together with the last couple of years of hardwork and also work on my technique. Haven't played a lot of T20 cricket in the last couple of years. Obviously nice to be batting at the top of the order.

Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad captain): Good record (here). Another great game of cricket. I think you saw in both powerplays there wasn't much for the bowlers. Once the ball got softer, it was holding up a bit. But it was still a good batting wicket. Normally dew makes it hard. (Feelings while watching his team bat like that) One half is really excited, the other half is I know I have to bowl (grins) but it's been great. Really happy with how we closed it out. I thought it was really disciplined. Everyone bowled to their field and were clear with how to bowl.

Cricket lover: "How many points are required to qualify for playoffs??" - you'd think 18 is a safe place to be or at least 16 with a solid net run-rate. Lots of cramming there though between 3 and 8 on that table!

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad): When you are defending those many runs, you go for plenty of runs and sometimes you bowl out teams for 150.We accepted the fact, we'll go for plenty of runs but keep executing to the plans and it worked out for us. (Own bowling form) Very good, not amongst the wickets, but the things I want to do, it's happening, it's just a matter of time before I start picking up wickets. (On Natarajan) Amazing, we know how good he is with the yorker, works very hard, silent guy and goes unnoticed, he's a important prospect for us, match winner. For so many years, this is the first time our batting has clicked well, happy to defend those many runs. Great to see our batting do so well. (On how Head and Abhishek aggressive batting intent) They are not stopping in the nets as well, doesn't matter whether it's the bowler or on the ground. In nets, being a bowler you don[t think much, all you can do is, keep hitting the right lengths and it's a nice practice against Head and Abhishek. Bowling is something which wins you matches, somebody said that, batting wins you the sponsorship, bowling wins you championship. The way we were bowling is really good, we've executed our plans.

Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals captain): The only thought process behind that, we thought there'll be a bit of dew but still thought we could've restricted to 230, we still would've stood a chance. Powerplay one of the difference, they got 120 or 130 runs, we were just catching up throughout the match, that was the massive difference. It stopped more in the second inning, than what we anticipated, when you have a score of 250 or 260, that gives bowlers more confidence to defend. (On Fraser-McGurk) He's batting phenomenally well, that's what you want, just more about sticking together as a team. It's difficult to swallow this, but we need to figure out what went wrong and come back better.

A contest that saw 465 runs ransacked across 39.1 overs. Not a common sight at the Arun Jaitley Stadium considering the kind of surfaces we've been used to over the years but it sure was a belter tonight. And both the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Delhi Capitals made the most of it although the latter just had way too much on their plate.

They gave it everything though in pursuit of 267 with Prithvi Shaw beginning with four boundaries on the trot and Jake Fraser-McGurk unleashing his wrath on Washington Sundar for a 30-run third over that gave the Capitals hope that they could pull off something special. Shaw departed soon after those boundaries and David Warner couldn't do much against his former franchise himself but Fraser-McGurk was on a roll, racking up the fastest fifty ever scored by a DC batter in the league's history as he took just 15 deliveries to get to the mark. With Abishek Porel also doing his best with an array of superb shots and finesse to go with it, the Capitals gave the Sunrisers enough reason to stay on their toes.

Mayank Markande was the game-changer though for SRH as he forced Fraser-McGurk into a miscued shot before drawing Porel out and having him stumped. Thereafter, the run chase was never on track for the Capitals even as they were ahead of the asking rate at the halfway mark. With no evident signs of dew, the cutters into the surface worked wonders for the Sunrisers as skipper Pat Cummins and T Natarajan showed the way, with young Nitish Kumar Reddy also following suit and adapting to what the conditions demanded.

Rishabh Pant looked way out of sorts even as he got the odd one away to the fence. With Tristan Stubbs unable to get going, DC fell comfortably behind the eight-ball and had no way back with Natarajan then firing his yorkers to clean up the tail as Nitish bagged a second wicket of his own. A much better bowling performance overall for the Sunrisers even as they were really made to worry at one stage but a victory as big as this that has boosted their net run-rate and sent them soaring into second position will surely hold them in great stead with five home games to come in the second half. And that is that! Straight to deep fine leg and Delhi Capitals have lost their last four wickets without a run being added. Sums up what has been a very tough night for them but you've got to credit them duly for giving it everything out there today with the bat. Sunrisers Hyderabad win by 67 runs and soar to second on the points table of IPL 2024!
