Matt Wallace's Early Life and Background

English professional golfer Matt Wallace was born on April 12, 1990, and is now a member of the PGA and European tours. Wallace worked for Hollister for two years after graduating from Aldenham School in 2008, during which time he partied and occasionally played county golf. Eventually, Wallace's father advised him to choose his career, and that's how his golf career began.

Matt Wallace's Amateur Career

Wallace was born and raised in Pinner, England, and attended Aldenham School. He attended Jacksonville State University in northeast Alabama in the 2010–11 season.

He had two victories in Jacksonville, including the 2011 OVC Championship, during his fruitful year there. At the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, he shot a 10-under 62 to tie the school record for the lowest round ever. He was named the OVC Freshman of the Year.

Matt Wallace's Professional Career

Wallace made the decision to play on the Alps Tour rather than the Euro-Pro Tour after turning professional in 2012 because he wanted to travel. He took home the 2016 Order of Merit and six Alps Tour wins, and as a result, he was able to join the Challenge Tour in 2017. Having tied for third in the Barclays Kenya Open at the beginning of the year, he advanced to the European Tour in May after winning the 2017 Open de Portugal.

His second victory on the European Tour and third overall, came at the 2018 Hero Indian Open, where he defeated Andrew Johnston in a playoff, and entered the world's top 100 for the first time. He won his third title at the BMW International Open in June, and in September, he resumed his winning ways at the 2018 Made in Denmark, winning a four-man playoff after making birdies at five of the final six holes. He tied for second place in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, to make his debut appearance in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

Wallace joined the PGA Tour in 2020, and his best finishes that season were a T4 finish at the Memorial Tournament and a T12 finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He secured his PGA Tour card by finishing in the 111th position on the FedEx standings.

Wallace began his PGA Tour career in the 2021–2022 season with a T14 at the Shriners Children’s Open. In August 2022, Wallace returned to the European Tour and placed second in the Omega European Masters, falling to Thriston Lawrence in a playoff.

Wallace was chosen to compete in the first Hero Cup in January 2023. He played for the Great Britain and Ireland team against Continental Europe, and he scored 2.5 points out of four, including a victory in singles over Thomas Detry. He tied for seventh place in the Valspar Championship in March, with his first PGA Tour victory coming the following week in the 2023 Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic.

Wallace finished second at the European Tour's 2023 D+D Real Czech Masters, tied for sixth at the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, and tied for ninth at the 2023 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. Including nine consecutive birdies on the back nine, his round of 60 secured him a spot in the DP World Tour Championship. He came in second at the end of the week.

Matt Wallace's Golf Journey

Matt Wallace's golf journey began after advice from his father to choose a career, after-working at Hollister. Wallace established his amateur career at Jacksonville State University, winning the 2011 OVC Championship and earning awards like OVC Freshman of the Year. Transitioning to professional golf in 2012, he opted for the Alps Tour, earning six wins and the 2016 Order of Merit.

His breakout moment came in 2017, with a European Tour card after winning the Open de Portugal. Notable victories followed, including the Hero Indian Open and the BMW International Open. It's also unknown where his parents are currently. There are rumors that Matt has a younger sister named Christie, but no details are available about her either.

Matt Wallace's Girlfriend

Chelsea Joce and Matt Wallace have been dating for around nine years. With Wallace, Chelsie decided to document her journey as a golf partner and has a blog called “Girl on Tour,” where she writes about her and Matt's tour experiences. That being said, she considered herself non-athletic.

Joce was born in England and has Spanish ancestry, she also has a sister, Hazel Joce. Chelsie keeps a large portion of her private life private. It has been a couple of years since she last updated her X page, her Instagram, or published a new blog.

During her time in college, Chelsie had aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur. She began her schooling in Hertfordshire and completed her secondary education at St. Albans Girls School from 2007 to 2012.

After relocating to the English town of Harpenden, she enrolled in and completed her education at Roundwood Park School in 2012. In 2014, Chelsie enrolled at the University of Leeds, and earned a 2:1 in her Human Resources Management Bachelor of Arts degree in 2017.

It was the year Chelsie enrolled at the university that she met Matt Wallace. She said they met on one of the evenings spent out at the club. He said to her, “You’re lucky you met me tonight. I’m a professional golfer. I’m never here; I travel a lot.” It seems Chelsie was impressed by Wallace’s pickup lines.

In December of 2014, the couple began dating; then Wallace was attempting to break into the professional golf scene, while Chelsie was concentrating on her studies. Their relationship was going well in the beginning, but Wallace began to win and tour the world in 2016, so his ascent was having an impact on their relationship.

Since Chelsie was unable to spend much time with Wallace, she made a crucial choice that would affect both her and Team Wallace. The Spaniard decided to put her life's ambitions on hold and stick by Wallace throughout. She clarified that she gave up her work to pursue her relationship and happiness. She has been there for him through all of his successes and failures, to support him.

She has also continued to work on her portfolio. She began her career at Conde Nast International as an HR temp and held the position of executive assistant. Since June 2023, she has been working as a business assistant at L'Oréal.

Chelsie, who had little interest in picking up and hitting the ball, was the only member of the Joce family who had never played golf. But destiny had other ideas, and now Chelsie finds herself surrounded by golf all the time and enjoys it.
