WWE RAW: 5 things we learned from this week’s episode (January 28, 2019)

Seth Rollins knows no pain

The night after Royal Rumble is always almost as exciting as the Rumble itself, as we get to see some interesting angles take place to build on the road to WrestleMania.

This year things were no different as Raw opened up to the man who won the men’s Royal Rumble match, as he took the stage to talk about his accomplishment.

Things went high and low throughout the night after that, as we saw some good matches and promos eclipsed by some bad bookings.

While we are glad Balor might be getting into contention for a championship once again, it was puzzling to see The Revival face The Major Brothers.

Kurt Angle put up another bad performance, which did little to help push Baron Corbin forward, while Raw finally remembered that it had ignited a rivalry between McIntyre and Strowman a few months ago.

One of the highlights of the night was the match between Ronda Rousey and Bayley which was followed by an uninvited guest from SmackDown Live.

There were many things we learned from the first show after Royal Rumble, so take a look at 5 of the biggest things we learned from this week’s episode of Raw.

#5 Seth Rollins is the crazy Iron Man

Seth Rollins is crazy. Absolutely crazy.

Rollins entered the Royal Rumble at the #10 spot, and lasted for 43 minutes to win the match. During this time, he went through a lot of physical torture, and was even put through the announce table by Bobby Lashley.

We expected Rollins to show up the next day to cut a promo on Raw, but that’s not all he did.

Just 24 hours later, Rollins cut a promo, then had a physical match with Dean Ambrose where he was the victor, and then took a hell of a beating at the hands of Brock Lesnar to close out the night.

No one in their wildest dreams could have expected Rollins to do all that in just 24 hours, but the Iron Man of WWE does not shy away from being a workhorse, and once again proved that he is one of a kind.

#4 Raw is trying to build its own Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch has become an icon in the wrestling world with her new persona and fearless attitude. She is one of a kind, but WWE is trying hard to replicate her success somehow.

Lynch has teased some inter-gender battles on SmackDown and on social media. She’s challenged Seth Rollins, and gone toe to toe with John Cena among others.

WWE is now trying to build Nia Jax similar to that, and it is not working out too well. We saw Jax enter the men’s Royal Rumble after attacking R-Truth, and she eliminated a few superstars.

She even came face to face with Randy Orton, which resulted in a huge pop.

Last night, she confronted Dean Ambrose and made him exit the ring, which surely signals that WWE is going towards some inter-gender feuds.

Whatever the reason for such spots, we certainly hope WWE is not trying to make Jax the Becky Lynch of the Raw brand.

#3 Kurt Angle should not be competing regularly

Kurt Angle was one of the greatest wrestlers of his time, and one of the men who built the SmackDown brand.

He has been a world-class performer whose list of extraordinary achievements go on for pages and pages. He is a Hall of Famer in both WWE and TNA Wrestling, and does not need to prove anything else to the world.

Even if he is working to put other superstars over, it is time he hangs up his boots for good.

Another lackluster performance this week has confirmed that he needs to take time off and let the newer superstars do the job, rather than try to put men like Baron Corbin over.

Angle should retire for good and enjoy the legacy he has made for himself, rather than make his die-hard fans watch him limping around in the ring and getting beat up by superstars who will never match his level.

#2 Finn Balor could become the next Intercontinental Champion

Finn Balor came very close to beating Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble, but The Extraordinary Man could not finish the job, as it required him to lose an arm in the process.

While Balor still deserves all the praise in the world for his efforts, he also deserves a main roster championship, which he hasn’t won for years. It's time WWE focuses on him before it's too late.

With Bobby Lashley interrupting him this week, it seems as though we know which championship he will be holding at the end of WrestleMania 35.

The Intercontinental Championship has changed hands quite often, but has missed Finn Balor who surely deserves the title.

While Raw has a tendency to ignite an angle and then forget about it, it seems as though Balor and Lashley will once again be ignited, but this time the Intercontinental Championship will be involved.

#1 The fans will get what they want once again

At the Royal Rumble, most fans had already pinned their hopes on Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins to win their respective Royal Rumble matches.

The creative did not disappoint, and allowed both superstars victories, which sent the crowd home happy. Clean wins for Lynch and Rollins will surely increase WWE's ratings too.

The second wish of the fans was to see Becky Lynch challenge Ronda Rousey, and Seth Rollins challenge Brock Lesnar. While we were almost 100 percent sure that would happen, no one expected it to be this early.

Just 24 hours later, the fans’ second wishes were granted by WWE, as both matches have been set for WrestleMania 35.

Whether it is the timing of Elimination Chamber, or just the build-up required for other matches, WWE did not want to waste any time in announcing the challenges.

Great move.
