WWE News: Triple H reveals how he got Vince McMahon to approve WarGames return

How did Triple H pull this off?W

hat's the story?

It's been a very, very long time since a WarGames match occurred because WWE has owned the rights to the concept and just hasn't done one. But this classic match is set to finally return to Houston at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

Three teams will battle inside a punishing double ring surrounded by a solid steel cage. But it wasn't an easy feat to accomplish. Triple H recently spoke to NBC Sports where he discussed some of the painstaking processes to make this grand gimmick match's reemergence a reality.

In case you didn't know...

After being gone from the pro wrestling landscape for so long, NXT is finally bringing back WarGames. It will all go down on November 18th in Houston Texas and although there are some modernized updates to the match's idea it will still be an action-packed contest.

The heart of the matter

Triple H said the WarGames idea has always been a "viable concept". After all, it wasn't just about the name because it was more of a branding which linked it's history back to WCW that even Triple H remembers fondly as a fan.

NXT is establishing itself as a new brand in and of itself. The Game explained how NXT has the opportunity to do different things with their space in the pro wrestling culture and when the opportunity came along for NXT to grab the WarGames brand and make it their own they seized the day.

Triple H said it seemed like the best time to bring the WarGames concept back to life, although he was always aware of how The Chairman Of The Board felt about the idea.

"I was aware of Vince’s feelings about it. There were some things about that match that he liked and there were some things about the concept that he didn’t necessarily think worked, especially in today’s world.
So I brought it back up to him and we walked through the process and I said here’s the way I think we can make this match work for us and he liked it, agreed with it, thought it worked great for NXT and was real happy to do it. So here we are."

Triple H said their goal with WarGames in NXT is to put a new spin on things and help bring new life to the idea of what it is now and not what it was back in the day.

But no matter how much they might stray from the original premise of the match, Triple H will always remember watching his heroes like Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, and others set the world on fire as a part of the initial groundbreaking War Games matches. He said this is a vision he wants to continue.

What's next

NXT TakeOver events usually bring everything they can to the table and in some instances, they even outshine the main roster's efforts on the following night. Expect great things from WarGames because Triple H wouldn't be doing it if he wasn't hundred percent certain some magic could happen in Houston.

Author's take

The WarGames concept being brought back to life in NXT is continuing the idea that the future is now, and they will also never forget about the past. That sounds like a winning combination to me.
