What's the story?

June 2nd, 2014 is a date that The Shield will remember forever, but it was a day that Seth Rollins didn't want to come when the angle was initially pitched to him by Vince McMahon.

In case you didn't know...

For more than 18 months, The Shield had been a force to be reckoned with and had gone through every opponent that was put in their way, so it reached the point where McMahon decided that The Shield should become separate entities.

Rollins turned on Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns just 24 hours after The Shield had completed a clean sweep over Evolution at Payback in their elimination match. Rollins sided with The Authority that night and went on to conquer WWE and lead from the front, but Rollins wasn't fully prepared to leave his brothers behind.

The heart of the matter

Seth Rollins recently appeared on the E&C Podcast of Awesomeness where he was able to reveal his thoughts on one of the biggest turning points of his career.

“I wasn’t ready for it, for sure. Obviously, that was not the role I expected coming out of it. When they said it was gonna be me that pulled the trigger I was almost like, ‘No, I’ve been a babyface in NXT — Ambrose is the heel. It’s not the other way around.’ It didn’t make any sense. I don’t know how to do this.”

“Honestly, it took some learning for me. I had been a heel in Ring Of Honor a little bit, but it’s just a different world here, you know? It’s a different animal working with different guys and the style is different. It’s a little more cut-throat. People looking out for themselves a little bit more, people are smarter. It’s just a whole different world.”
“When we did the turn it was excellent and then it took me a little while to get in my groove. Trying to figure out, ‘Okay, who is Seth Rollins now?’ What is this character when he’s not in The Shield," He said via Ringsidenews.

What's next?

Roman Reigns is currently sidelined as he continues to battle leukemia, Dean Ambrose has already declared that he will not be re-signing his WWE contract when it expires in April, whilst Seth Rollins is currently on the sidelines after suffering a back injury, so it's safe to say that The Shield's stranglehold over WWE is finally over.
