WWE DAY 1: 5 botches you may have missed

There were several botches last night at WWE Day 1

WWE Day 1 kicked off 2022 for the company and what a show it was. WWE was forced to shuffle the card several times with COVID-19 continuing to cause issues past the new year mark.

Roman Reigns was the most obvious absentee since the Universal Champion announced that he had tested positive for the virus just hours before the show.

Brock Lesnar was then inserted into the WWE Championship match which made it a fatal five-way instead since his Universal Championship match was completely scrapped.

It definitely wasn't the night that WWE had planned to kick off a new year and a new era, which meant that there were several slight slip-ups as part of the show.

#5. Ridge Holland suffers broken nose following Ricochet botch at WWE Day 1

Ridge Holland teamed up with Sheamus as part of the kickoff show for WWE Day 1 but was taken out of the match early following a botch from Ricochet.

Sheamus was then forced to work a handicap match when it was revealed by the announcement team that Holland had suffered a broken nose. Ricochet was looking for an assisted 450 Splash when he was a little off balance and ended up stomping on Holland's face.

Ricochet then followed through on the move by putting all of his weight on the star's face which led to blood squirting out and all over the canvas. Luckily Holland was able to get up quick enough and tag out of the match which allowed him to then seek medical assistance.

Sheamus continued the match and was able to pick up a huge victory which is now being seen as the first pinfall of 2022. This could signal the beginning of a huge push for the Irish star following this win, but it's unclear what the future holds for Holland.

As of writing, WWE are yet to give an official update on Holland, who failed to reappear in the match after he was initially tagged out to Sheamus. The current report believes that the former NXT Superstar could have suffered a broken nose.

#4. Becky Lynch botches the finish of her match against Liv Morgan at WWE Day 1

Becky Lynch retained the RAW Women's Championship at WWE Day 1, but it was clear from the finish of the match that Lynch wasn't in the right position.

The Man pinned Liv Morgan close to the ropes and then looked back and attempted to use her feet as a way to ensure there was more pressure on the pin. Lynch wasn't close enough to the ropes to be able to use them but was still able to secure the win.

It's unclear if WWE wanted another cheap victory in order for Morgan to be handed a rematch at the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

#3. Becky Lynch was out of position for several moves throughout her match with Liv Morgan

Whilst the finish of the match was the most notable botch, there were also several others throughout that the commentary team worked hard to cover up.

Lynch was out of position for the Missile Dropkick which meant that it barely touched her and wasn't in the right place for the codebreaker. Lynch looked on edge throughout the match and it appeared as though Morgan really had her rattled but she was still able to find a way to hit her Man Handle Slam for the victory.

#2. Beth Phoenix's music was played late

The WWE Universe finally got to see the return of Beth Pheonix at Day 1, after the former Women's Champion ran out to make the save in her husband's match against The Miz.

The issue here was that Beth was on stage for several minutes before the company opted to hit her music and allow her to walk to the ring. It didn't make any sense for Phoenix to be standing on the ramp for that long and then to play her music when it was clear that she had already arrived was slightly odd.

#1. WWE forgot to change the outcome on their own results at Day 1

WWE was forced to make a number of changes at Day 1 after it was revealed that Roman Reigns had tested positive for COVID-19. Brock Lesnar was added to the WWE Championship match and it's clear there was never any other winner.

It appears that the company may have handed the fans a clue, since their official results following the show contained quite the botch.

Whilst the picture of Lesnar has been changed, it appears that WWE forgot to change the winner of the WWE title match since Big E was named as the victor.
