Cody Rhodes shows respect to 29-year-old name after win on WWE SmackDown; star looked irritated

Cody Rhodes showed respect to a rising star who looked irritated after losing on WWE SmackDown.

Carmelo Hayes is a name that needs no introduction. Since the start of his career in WWE NXT, Hayes has displayed a lot of potential. His in-ring skills helped him become a two-time NXT North American Championship. Hayes' penchant for greatness led him to capture the NXT Championship from Bron Breakker. Although he lost the title after a short reign, his impressive performances earned him a spot in the United States Championship Tournament on WWE SmackDown.

Carmelo Hayes impressed the SmackDown GM during the tournament and as a result, was the first round pick for the blue brand on tonight's WWE Draft. After getting drafted to SmackDown, Hayes made a bold play by challenging the Undisputed WWE Champion later on in the night. Both men put on a stellar contest. Throughout the match, Hayes proved that he belonged in the ring with The American Nightmare as he met him move for move. However, in the end, it was Cody Rhodes who walked away with the win.

Following the match, Cody Rhodes showed respect to Hayes by offering him some words of wisdom. However, the former NXT star looked a bit irritated which is understandable considering he just suffered a major loss.

Based on tonight's performances, the future looks bright for Carmelo Hayes on the main roster.
