Cody Rhodes recently took to social media to make a statement after competing on Friday Night SmackDown for the first time since he won the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania XL.

The American Nightmare used to be a member of the RAW roster, but he is now officially a part of the blue brand. Cody and AJ Styles were involved in a contract signing segment to make their match at Backlash France official. Unlike most contract signings, this one did not erupt into chaos, and no tables were flipped. Cody then joined WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H while the latter was about to announce the first-round Draft picks, which led to a match between him and Carmelo Hayes in the main event.

Cody Rhodes defeated the former NXT Champion after hitting the latter with a Cross Rhodes and then took to X/Twitter to comment on competing in his first match as a SmackDown Superstar in 2024.

"First match, first day on the job. NEXT #SmackDown," Cody Rhodes shared.

What the future has in store for The American Nightmare remains to be seen.

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray said he would not mind seeing The Rock return to dethrone Cody Rhodes

The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes is a match that many fans want to see, and it seems likely that it will happen one day, probably at WrestleMania 41.

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray mentioned on the Busted Open Radio podcast that he would not mind if The Final Boss came back and defeated The American Nightmare to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.

"I would not even mind The Rock taking that strap off of Cody and making Cody chase again (...) I don't believe that Cody needs to have some kind of credible, long run à la Roman or anybody else. Cody's story was that of the underdog who fought through, who fought The Final Boss, who overcame The Final Boss, and finally Roman Reigns (...) I have no problem with [The] Rock coming in and defeating Cody if [The] Rock's going to stick around right and at least do some business with WWE, not just disappear," Bully Ray said.

Cody Rhodes' first title defense will take place at the Backlash Premium Live Event in France on Saturday next week. It will be interesting to see whether AJ Styles will defeat Rhodes in their first-ever match.
