Halloween weekend is here, and if you need last-minute inspiration, what better place to look than the Superstars of WWE?

While some fans might consider ring gear trivial, the reality is it's a great way for wrestlers to have some fun and show off what they love. We have seen wrestlers show their love for comic books, video games, and fairytales along with a whole host of strange little interests in their attire.

#5 WWE Superstars get Nostalgic with their Ring Gear

Many current WWE Superstars are 80’s and 90’s kids so it is only logical that they would take inspiration for their ring gear from TV and Film from that time period. We saw The New Day rock a Dragonball Z inspired look at WrestleMania 33 when they hosted the show, but they are not the only ones to do this.

Someone who will pop up a lot on this list is Alexa Bliss, who along with Nikki Cross wore a Toy Story inspired look in 2019, with Bliss dressed as Buzz Lightyear while Cross was Rex the dinosaur. If you want to go down the Toy Story route this Halloween, there are so many options to go for and is always great fun for a group costume.

Everything connected to the 80’s and 90’s makes for great group Halloween costumes with ensemble casts and team ups being huge in that era. Other examples are Seth Rollins channeling the White Ranger while Naomi has in the past dressed as the Pink Ranger on WWE TV, making the Power Rangers a 'go-to' costume idea.

Another aspect of this effort to include nostalgic childhood memories into wrestling attire has been adopted not just by The New Day and Alexa Bliss but also Zelina Vega who is an avid gamer. Last month we saw Shayna Baszler mix up her gear in honor of one of her favorite games, War Hammer.

It’s cool to be a geek, so lets embrace it and reference all of the things that make us who we are.

#4 WWE Superstars channel their favorite Comic Book Heroes and Villans

Rey Mysterio and Johnny Gargano are well known for their superhero and supervillain wrestling attire in WWE, but who else has rocked the looks of their favorite comic book characters? and how can you emulate them this Halloween?

Rey Mysterio and Johnny Gargano have both rocked looks inspired by heroes and villains. While Mysterio tends to always emulate heroes, Gargano showed his progression from Hero into Villain through his gear at each NXT: TakeOver. Now, with his own team, even if that has been depleted by the absence of his wife, Candice LeRae and Austin Theory's call up to the main roster, it has opened up an endless list of possibilities to explore attire that channels classic superhero teams.

Along with Mysterio and Gargano, Cedric Alexander is also someone who has channeled Comic Book characters into his gear, even before making it to WWE. His wife, AEW star Big Swole, does the same, having been both Storm and the Joker before. Alexander has worn gear inspired by Harley Quinn to match his wife’s gear while she was on the indies. He has also worn attire inspired by Black Panther, Spiderman, and Captain Marvel.

#3 The Women of WWE also get in on the Comic Book Action

And what about the women of WWE? Sasha Banks has channeled Wonder Woman during the first Women’s Royal Rumble match in WWE, but she isn’t the first female superstar and certainly not the last to rock the red, white, and blue.

Tegan Nox returned from her second ACL surgery embodying the look of Captain Marvel as this was the movie that kept her going during her rehab. Nox even came to the ring wearing the brown/black leather jacket of the film and comic book protagonist Carol Danvers.

Alexa Bliss has also shown off her love for comic books with the obvious parallels between her and Harley Quinn. She has also been Iron Man, Super Girl and the Riddler. Peyton Royce during her time in NXT wore green attire with purple vines adorning it, showing her love for Poison Ivy. During Halloween the Divas would also dress up, normally in costumes, which allowed for The Bella Twins to dress as the famous duo of Batman and Robin.

#2 Alice In WWE Land

A fun group costume will always be Alice in Wonderland, but you can always go it alone as any character from the original novel or Disney animated film. Many different female superstars in WWE over the years have either dressed up in costume or had their gear be inspired by those characters. The Queen of Harts herself, Natalya, has dressed as the Queen of Hearts, the ruler of Wonderland.

Yet again we get to look at Alexa Bliss and her look from the all-women pay-per-view, Evolution. This time she was joined by Alicia Fox and Mickie James, who were drafted in to face off against Trish Stratuss and Lita, after Bliss couldn’t compete due to injury.

Bliss dressed as Alice herself, wearing the iconic powder blue while also sporting a black headband and a black and white diamond motif. Mickie James of course dressed as the Queen of Hearts, making sure her color pallet reflected the iconic look we all know from the Disney classic. Black and Red are the main focus of her gear being complimented by a cape and headdress adorned with playing cards. Alicia Fox is of course the Mad Hatter of WWE, teaming her usual gear with a military jacket, funky hat, and a clock-shaped bag.

Other Disney and fairy-tale inspired gear has been seen as of late in WWE, with Charlotte Flair being the most prominent taking on the look of Cruella Deville and Maleficent as well as looking towards Comic Book characters too.

#1 Horror Movies come to WWE

Alexa Bliss has dressed as Freddy Kruger from a Nightmare on Elm Street on WWE TV, but who else has paid homage to horror movies of the past? Horror-inspired gimmicks are some of the most interesting within wrestling, with everyone from Finn Balor’s Demon King to Bray Wyatt’s The Fiend persona all creating new and exciting stories.

Shotzi Blackheart at WWE's take on Halloween Havoc 2020 wore many different horror-inspired looks, including an interesting take on the Bride of Frankenstein, a Devil and Elvira Mistress of Darkness. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae embodied everyone’s favorite Halloween couple, Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Even Dakota Kai got in on the action this year, returning as the Grim Reaper to attack old friend Raquel Gonzalez while the superstars of NXT 2.0 celebrated with a costume party backstage.

The Riott Squad channeled some of their favorite horror movies at WWE Evolution, the first and only all women’s pay-per-view put on by the company. Ruby was dressed as Jigsaw from the SAW franchise, while Sarah Logan embraced her southern roots by embodying Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Liv Morgan went to Stephen King’s IT for inspiration, choosing to become a part of the Loser Club by wearing a red and white variation of her normal wrestling attire.

Just this week Liv Morgan showed off her Chucky, from the film Child's Play, inspired gear just in time for Halloween on WWE TV. She is one to watch when it comes to pop culture gear, previously transforming herself into Christina Aguilera from her Dirrrtty music video, Cher from Clueless, the character of Black Cat and even wearing half of a black and white pant suit alongside Ruby Riott in a homage to Beetlejuice. She has also channeled DX, NWO and Owen Hart.
