5 superstars WWE need to stop wasting TV time on

WWE Monday Night Raw In Las Vegas
Monday Night Raw!

Can you believe some of the things WWE lets air on their weekly broadcasts?

While some of the company's programming is amazing and breathtaking to watch, there are other parts of their weekly television shows which just make you cringe. In fact, the WWE has been wasting a lot of TV time over the past few months on a handful of superstars that honestly don't deserve it.

They appear so intent on wasting this time that in the process, they let a lot of promising talent slip through the cracks in the process of it all. Not only is this bad for business and a horrible way to establish new up-and-coming stars in the company, it also makes for some of the most abysmal television the company has produced in a long time.

Furthermore, the bottom of the barrel booking that they've been doing with both SmackDown Live and Raw Women's division is deplorable and indicative of creative running out of ideas with regards to effectively promoting their current crop of women. Naturally, not everyone will agree with that assessment - but they can admit the women's division has gone downhill lately.

Then, there's the main-event title scene. You'd think they would reserve this for only their most promising talent, though it just ends up being used to spotlight superstars that don't really help the role in the first place. That's not to say they lack the potential to in future, nor should remain on the mid-card forever, it just means that right now isn't the perfect time to push said superstar.

With all of that in mind, given the WWE's never-ending journey where they try to find storylines and characters that will both entice and excite wrestling fans, here are five superstars the company should not be wasting their time on right now:

#5 The New Day

When will WWE see the end of The New Day?
When will WWE see the end of The New Day?

The New Day was once one of the fiercest and most comical tag teams in the entire division, but they have now been regulated to sideshow humour and pancake antics since coming to SmackDown Live.

With that in mind and the brand's tag-team division already having a lot of depth currently, it doesn't make sense for the WWE to continue wasting TV time on them. This doesn't mean that Kofi Kingston, Big E Langston nor Xavier Woods should be scrapped from TV completely - it just means their time as a trio should come to an eventual end.

Not only is it evident by how long their gimmick has gone on, but also by just how stale it has been in its latest incarnation.

#4 Bayley and Sasha Banks

Bayley, Sasha Banks,
Is anyone else getting tired of this best friend storyline?

It's not as though the pair don't deserve TV time, but it's becoming increasingly hard to justify the amount of time they get when the creative staff give them nothing to work with. In fact, Bayley and Sasha Banks have seemingly been on a downward spiral since entering into their best friend storyline, which is only getting worse with time.

First, there was the promise of Banks versus Bayley at WrestleMania 34, which turned into the two women having a lacklustre encounter during the Women's Memorial Battle Royal match. They followed that up by teaming back up together, breaking them up several times before sending the pair to Dr. Shelby for counselling.

If nothing else, the company needs to take both women off television for a while and work on repackaging them to be on the same level that Alexa Bliss, Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax are on right now. They also need to stop coming up with these ridiculous ideas that succeed in burying the division, as opposed to building it up.

#3 Bobby Roode

Bobby Roode really isn't all that Glorious!
Bobby Roode really isn't all that Glorious!

And he's supposed to be Glorious?

Maybe if WWE kept him as a heel when he was called up to the main roster, this would be the case. However, they decided to have him as a babyface instead. What's even worse is the fact that they have continuously put him in feuds that seem to do more to turn his gimmick into a punchline, rather than building him up as the next big thing.

Unfortunately for the company, this has resulted in fans largely giving up on the former NXT champion - which only worsens every time they shove him into another storyline. With that being said, Roode would undoubtedly benefit from being taken off television for a while and being repackaged as a heel upon returning.

Not only does this finally give the WWE Universe the same Bobby Roode that ran rough shot in NXT, it could also result in one of the year's best feuds if they find the right person to pair him up with. In the end, perhaps they are content in keeping him a mid-carder for a while longer, but they are only degrading his once promising character by doing so.

#2 Carmella and James Ellsworth

WWE really needs to give this storyline the boot!
WWE really needs to give this storyline the boot!

The WWE is supposed to be in the midst of a Women's revolution right now, but you wouldn't exactly be able to tell by what WWE is currently doing with Carmella and James Ellsworth right now. Not only is Carmella insanely boring and reliant on cheap heel heat on SmackDown Live, James Ellsworth is dragging the entire division down in the process.

A prime example of this, was Ellsworth's triumphant return at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, which proved enough to distract Asuka before handing Carmella a pinfall victory over The Empress of Tomorrow. Things only worsened the following week however, when Asuka and Ellsworth went one-on-one during an inter-gender contest.

In all honesty, this feud has developed into nothing more than a disgrace to the women's division and clearly indicates the company's creative team is running out of legitimate ideas on how to showcase these talented women. Furthermore, it highlights just how much people cannot stand Carmella, which is a welcome sign that her title reign is not going to last for much longer.

In the end, these two need some time away from television until they find something more suitable for them - whether that's as a pairing or separate. They also need to stop putting the women's division in situations which further degrade them, making the highly-anticipated women's revolution a thing of the past once again.

#1 Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley might look great in the ring, but he is boring to watch on the microphone.
Bobby Lashley might look great in the ring, but he is boring to watch on the microphone.

Let's be honest here. Bobby Lashley is not top guy material. Neither is Roman Reigns at present, though he is leaps and bounds ahead of the former MMA fighter. In fact, one has to wonder why they would even bring Lashley back to the company given his sub-par microphone skills, poor creative direction by staff as well as his inability to really connect with fans.

While Lashley would be much better served in a minor role with the company, his feuds against Sami Zayn and Reigns have proven he struggled on the mic and failed to get fans behind him. In addition, he just doesn't have the bad-ass look that Reigns has as a top guy, which is an additional reason why Lashley falls short of expectations.

Of course, there is always a chance at being proven wrong and perhaps this will end up happening, but it doesn't appear as though he has the tools to be a top threat within the company. Not only is that obvious by the plethora of problems that are holding him back, but also given the amount of other superstars who would do a better job than him in the same spot.

In the end, Lashley appears to be one of those flash-in-the-pan kind of guys. He will stay with the company for a while and might even get a title run out of it, but once WWE realise that he is unable to draw on the same level as Reigns, Rollins, Strowman and Lesnar and cannot connect well with fans, he'll leave them just like he did previously.

The worst part of all that, is the fact they decided to waste valuable TV time on him once again - failing to learn from previous mistakes.
