5 Signs that prove Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose will happen at WWE WrestleMania 35

A match worthy of being on a WrestleMania card.
A match worthy of being on a WrestleMania card.

It meant much more than winning titles. It was even more important than being accepted by the fans. Roman Reigns winning the most consequential battle of his life against Leukemia has added a real-life layer to his reel character.

It was a peculiar feeling to see The Big Dog make his entrance on this week's Raw without the blaring boos that usually overpowered the squeaky cheers. Reigns is finally the hero he was envisioned to become and it took a drastic turn of events for that to happen.

Anyway, he's back in his yard and fortunately at the right time. WrestleMania 35 is that time of the year when casuals realize pro wrestling still exists while the hardcore fans just pray that the 7-hour show is worth the interminable runtime.

The return of Reigns is certainly a short in the arm for the WWE Creative, who is looking to attentively shape the biggest card of the year. So how does the former WWE Universal Champion feature in the current scheme of things for WrestleMania 35?

There are options galore but only one of them ticks all boxes from a logical perspective. Reigns and Rollins have feuded. Ambrose and Rollins have feuded. Reigns and Ambrose, however, have never been involved in a full-blown storyline with well-defined heel and face dynamics.

The time is right to finally explore the rivalry and these signs prove that WWE is also building up towards the same.

#1. It was always the original plan

Before Reigns was unexpectedly forced to go on a hiatus owing to leukemia relapse, Ambrose was earmarked to be the WrestleMania 35 opponent for the Big Dog, as per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.

Whether Reigns was supposed to head into 'Mania as the Universal Champion or not is anyone's guess, but Ambrose was the man who would have ideally turned heel in a feud against WWE's anointed poster boy at the Show of Shows.

Ambrose may not have even thought about leaving the company had the plans remained the same. After all, he would have been booked to look much stronger if he was supposed to face the most protected talent of this generation in Reigns.

It's not too late though, as everything seems to have fallen into place for WWE to reignite the plans that were unfortunately scrapped.

#2. The ambiguity surrounding Ambrose’ relationship with Reigns and Rollins

Reigns returned, cut an inspirational promo and had a heart-wrenching moment with Seth Rollins on Raw. It was predictable yet effective. However, why didn’t Ambrose come out along with Rollins to greet Reigns after the much-hyped announcement?

Reigns and Rollins may have saved the Lunatic Fringe later on in the night but there was a noticeable vibe that prevented an all-out reconciliation between the 'brothers'.

Is Ambrose a face, heel or a tweener at this moment? WWE is playing coy and we should know more on his gimmick as the weeks go by. As things stand, The Hounds of Justice will most likely get back together for a Fastlane tag team match before Ambrose snaps again to set up a singles contest with Reigns.

Who else will either one of them face? Ambrose vs. Nia Jax? Reigns as the third man in the Universal title match at WrestleMania 35? No!!

There is a good enough reason why the latter, however rational it may sound from a storyline standpoint, will not happen…

#3. Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar can’t be altered

This year’s showcase of Immortals is billed to have two main events. One is, of course, the Universal Championship match between The Architect and The Beast Incarnate while the other would most probably be a Triple Threat showdown between Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship.

The Raw women’s title bout is the frontrunner to actually close out the show but WWE would also prominently feature the story unfolding for Raw’ top men’s title.

WWE, though, can’t have two triple threat titles matches as marquee attractions as they also need to maintain some diversity across the card. Reigns does deserve a shot at reclaiming the gold he never lost but he must wait for his opportunity after ‘Mania. While triple threat matches increase the unpredictability, it would just be overkill to book two similar bouts this time around.

Rollins vs. Lesnar is already set in stone and is unlikely to be changed to accommodate a returning Reigns.

#4. Roman Reigns is ‘working on’ the Dean Ambrose contract situation

Will Reigns and WWE convince Ambrose to stay?

It has been weeks since the news of Ambrose’s WWE departure was made public and the powers that be in the company are still figuring out ways to convince the former World Champion to stay. They have offered him money. Tons of money!

But, the 33-year-old seems to be uninterested in the monetary pleasures of life. He wants creative freedom and no hokey promos. He wants to break free from the artistic shackles of the WWE and unleash the real Dean Ambrose. Unless that happens, Ambrose will not be staying irrespective of the number of zeroes in his contract. WWE, though, may have a trump card up their sleeves – Roman Reigns!

Reigns was asked about Ambrose quitting WWE during an autograph signing session recently and the former WWE Champion said that they ‘were going to work on that’. As WrestlingNews.co reports, it was made to look as if Reigns was tasked with the job of persuading Ambrose to renew his contract.

The report additionally states that Ambrose looked the happiest backstage in a long time during Raw in which Reigns announced his comeback.

A WrestleMania feud with Reigns is fresh and is as high profile as it can get, something that Ambrose would prefer over getting slammed by Nia Jax.

So will Reigns’ presence be enough for Ambrose to stick around? It would take a lot more than that and the changes have already started to show. The return of Bruce Pritchard in a lead creative role and the large-scale changes that are said to be in motion backstage regarding the writing have given talents some hope. They have been told to be patient until the creative overhaul is completed.

We hope that does it for Ambrose. Even if it doesn’t, WWE has the chance to send him off in style…

#5. The perfect farewell

The history between the two makes for a perfect farewell match for Ambrose.
The history between the two makes for a perfect farewell match for Ambrose.

Now, this is more of a reason than a sign as to why the match must happen.

Ambrose has been the undisputed workhorse of the company for the past 5 years and there is a reason why he is known as the Ironman backstage. The indie product has toiled hard for years but has always found himself behind Reigns and Rollins in the hierarchy.

His exit is justifiable as he would be valued more by the likes of ROH, NJPW, AEW or any independent promotion for that matter. Heck, his star power is decent enough for him to give showbiz a shot.

Thus, we won’t be too disheartened if he does leave. However, we will be really sad if WWE doesn’t give him the send off he deserves. He doesn’t need to win a big match and we don’t expect that from the WWE either. WWE would not want to give an outgoing star any sort of mileage and would try to downplay the release as much as they can.

The least they can do is for him is to book him in a one-on-one match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. They have tremendous chemistry and can put on a wholesome feud with the right angle in place.

Reigns can come out on top and have a highlight reel moment with Ambrose after the match for the fans to cherish. It has to be a Shield member who gives Ambrose a proper send-off. As Rollins will be occupied with the task of slaying the beast, Reigns is the ideal candidate to wrestle Ambrose in what could be his last match until he decides to conceivably return to the company someday.
