There are many reasons that a superstar may take a break from WWE. In-ring performers may take a break due to injury, for a change in persona or personal reasons.

At the moment there are quite a few performers absent from WWE TV. With the ongoing pandemic, performers from outside of the USA have been hit with travel restrictions, stopping them from working overseas.

There have also been some superstars over the past few months who have had brief absences from programming that have already returned. Take Apollo Crews as an example, who missed a few weeks of television which was explained on-screen by him failing a medical test.

More recently, fans have seen two huge returns. Both Roman Reigns, now with Paul Heyman at his side, and Sami Zayn have come back to screens, with Reigns even becoming the new WWE Universal Champion at Payback.

At the moment, there are a handful of stars who are still absent from WWE TV; here are five who's the date of return is still not known as of yet.

Fans have not seen Ember Moon on WWE TV since the star was in pursuit of the 24/7 Championship in the autumn of 2019. Leading up to her injury, Moon had been on an unfortunate losing streak after facing Bayley at SummerSlam.

Moon suffered a tear to her Achilles tendon, which she claimed she has been unknowingly wrestling with for months. She was also excluded from the WWE Draft during October 2019, not being chosen on TV for either WWE Monday Night RAW or WWE SmackDown. However, on the WWE website, she is listed as a SmackDown superstar.

Moon has been seen working as an analyst on WWE Backstage alongside Paige and Renee Young though. Fans praised her performance on the show and the insight that she provided. On WWE Backstage, Moon revealed that her injury could lead to her being out of the ring indefinitely.

Hopefully, Ember Moon will be able to return to the ring at some point. She is a tremendous talent and has been missed on WWE TV over the past year.

#4. Xavier Woods (Injured at WWE live event, October 2019)

Like Ember Moon, Xavier Woods has also suffered from a painful Achilles injury. The much-loved member of The New Day was injured during a WWE live event in October 2019, and he claimed that he could be out of action for up to a year.

Woods is still out of action eleven months later. However, the star has been busy elsewhere, creating huge amounts of content for his YouTube channel UpUpDownDown, and making appearances on The Bump.

He has also been creating content with his New Day partners Kofi Kingston and Big E on the hilarious New Day Podcast, with special guests such as Naomi and Tyler Breeze.

More recently, the superstar was unveiled to be the host on the recently-revived WWE chat show, Talking Smack. Woods has also been active on Twitch as a gaming streamer and has taken part in a 12-hour long Twitch stream with fellow WWE superstar Cesaro to benefit the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

Although Xavier Woods has been still creating content for fans, he has been very much missed in the ring. Hopefully he will be making a return soon to support his friend Big E, who is currently receiving a push as a singles star.

Sonya Deville was part of a huge storyline on WWE TV this year. The star was involved in a huge feud with former friend and tag team partner Mandy Rose, after it was discovered that she tried to sabotage Rose's budding relationship with Otis.

The pair battled back and forth over months, and the story took an intense turn when Deville attacked Rose backstage while she was getting ready for a date. Deville smeared lipstick across the face of the Golden Goddess, hit her and even resorted to hacking at her long blonde hair before she was stopped by WWE officials.

Following this, a Hair vs. Hair match was set between the two of this years edition of SummerSlam. However, real-life issue caused this to change.

Sadly, Deville was the target of a kidnap attempt at her home in Florida. This forced plans to change last minute and the stipuluation at SummerSlam was then changed to a Loser Leaves WWE match, which Rose won. The stipulation change will give her a much-needed break from the spotlight during the difficult time that she is facing.

It is unknown when Sonya Deville will be making a return to WWE, if she does at all. Currently, Deville is listed as alumni on the WWE website so she could possibly return as a brand new character - who knows what the future holds?

Charlotte Flair has been breaking records throughout her WWE career. The former champion took a break earlier this year to undergo surgery, and it is still unclear when she will be making a comeback.

Leading up to her break, Flair was enjoying her second reign as NXT Women's Champion after defeating Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 36. The Queen then dropped the belt to Io Shirai at NXT TakeOver: In Your House in an intense triple threat match, and was then written off WWE TV with a backstage attack from Nia Jax.

Since Flair went on her break, there has been much speculation about when she will be returning, with the star often turning to twitter to debunk the rumours. It has also been reported that Flair is in talks to cross over to mainstream television with a huge network TV show.

During her absence, Charlotte Flair has been fairly active on social media, taking time to post photos of herself with her fiance, fellow WWE superstar Andrade. It is still unclear when she will be making her in-ring return, but it is much-anticipated.
