In the world of professional wrestling, it is an engaging rivalry that adds life to the weekly product. However, it won't be unfair to say that 2019 was not a good year when it comes to rivalries in WWE. Horrific rivalries took the center stage in the last 12 years, and this led to some of the worst storylines in the history of the organization.

Long gone are the days when there were rivalries that lasted for three pay-per-view matches as a lot of feuds are now brought to an end even before they could take off. While there were some feuds that were bound to fail from the moment they started, others sank either because of poor development or the disappointing matches between the Superstars.

Even between those dreadful times, there were certain feuds that had the fans engaged for the entire period. While they were nowhere near the level of historic feuds like Steve Austin vs The Rock or John Cena vs CM Punk, they were the only shining light in the WWE calendar year. Here are the 5 best WWE main roster feuds of 2019.

#5 The Revival vs The New Day

The two best teams kept tag team wrestling alive on Smackdown.

Truth be told, talents like Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E are hard to find. The trio is capable of having a good match with any random pairing in the industry, and when they are paired opposite an equally good team, they create magic.

They conquered new heights of success during their feud with The Usos in 2017, carried the same momentum with The Usos and The Bar in 2018, and in 2019, it was the turn of The Revival, who are easily the best tag team on the roster.

Initially acting as supporting characters during the feud between Kingston and Randy Orton, the two teams themselves became embroiled in a heated feud over the Smackdown Tag Team Champions following SummerSlam.

While it was not as engaging as the critically acclaimed New Day vs Usos rivalry from 2017, it was easily tag team wrestling of the year. Their matches at Clash of Champions and November 8 edition of SmackDown, both of which saw the title change hands, were very well laid, and their latest meeting at TLC was a recall to the famous tag team ladder matches the early 2000s.

Given the amount of talent they possess and the chemistry they share, it won't be a surprise if the two teams continue to wrestle great matches in the future.

#4 Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks

Becky Lynch started off in 2019 as the hottest character in the professional wrestling industry and ended the year with her momentum intact. However, for a while, it seemed as though WWE was on the verge of destroying the most over Superstar in the world.

Her Royal Rumble victory and the subsequent feud with Ronda Rousey were marred by some meaningless booking, which included the inclusion of Charlotte Flair into the feud and the post WrestleMania period revolved more around her real-life relationships with Seth Rollins than her meandering rivalry with Lacey Evans.

And then came Sasha Banks, who not only rejuvenated the Women's Division on Raw with her return as a heel but also gave The Man the first meaningful feud of her reign. From stunning brawls to the amazing heel/face dynamics, Sasha and Becky added life to the programming on Red Brand.

Their match at Clash of Champions was easily the highest point on the entire show, and Aa month later, these two took brutality to a whole new level with their Hell in a Cell match. They were the only two horsewomen who had not been paired opposite each other, and when they were, they provided for some of the best stuff inside the ring.

#3 Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins

It's quite astonishing that within a span of 12 months, Seth Rollins went from being the most over Superstar in the WWE to being one of the most hated Superstars on the roster. His comments on twitter, coupled with his booking following his Universal Title victory, forced the entire WWE Universe to turn on their beloved Superstar.

However, the first half of the year was one of the best periods of his career. His victory in the Royal Rumble match kick-started a long rivalry with Brock Lesnar that lasted for the better part of the next 6 months and included three pay-per-view matches.

His victory over Brock Lensar at WrestleMania 35, despite the beating he took during the build-up and before the match, was the first feel-good moment of the night as it brought an end to Lesnar's reign of terror. However, this celebration was short-lived as Lesnar once again won the Universal Title at Extreme Rules by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract.

Fighting in a grudge match in the main event of Summerslam, The Architect gave Lesnar his best match of the year as he gave a determined performance to regain his Universal Title and bring an end to a really eventful rivalry.

#2 Brock Lesnar vs Rey Mysterio

Brock Lesnar's rivalry with Seth Rollins was good, yet it wasn't his best one of the year as Rey Mysterio topples Rollins as the best adversary of Lesnar in 2019 in a feud that was actually Brock's best program in years.

It all began all the way back in September when Lesnar attacked Mysterio before his Universal Title match against Seth Rollins on Raw. The rivalry became even more personal with the inclusion of Cain Valesquez, who Brock defeated at Crown Jewel for the WWE Title.

A throwback to the iconic David vs Goliath concept, Mysterio's retaliation on Brock for his attacks on The Masked Luchador's son again turned him into the most beloved Superstar on the roster. His beating of Lesnar with a lead pipe actually made people think that he might beat The Beast for the WWE Title at Survivor Series,

Their match, while short, was exactly what it should have been. Lesnar dominated Rey for the first 3 quarters, with the challenger making a comeback with the help of his son and almost dethroning the champion before Brock brought an end to Rey's fairy tale run and ended another year as a World Champion.

#1 Daniel Bryan vs Kofi Kingston

Five years after he was given the opportunity to enjoy his time at the top of the food chain, it was Daniel Bryan's turn to do the favor for someone who was challenging his popularity from 2014 -- a surprising challenger in perennial mid-card star, Kofi Kingston.

An Iron Man performance in a gauntlet match, that he was not even supposed to be a part of, started a wave of support for Kingston from the fans as they demanded a first one-on-one World Title opportunity for their beloved Superstar at WrestleMania.

Taking a whole new turn following Kofi's gutsy defeat at the hands of Bryan at Elimination Chamber, the wild support from the fans not only forced WWE to change their existing 'Mania plans for Bryan but also brought the best underdog story in years.

In what was easily the best build-up for any WrestleMania match this year, Kofi and his New Day stablemates Big E and Xavier Woods fought through all the hurdles laid by Mr. McMahon and Daniel Bryan to earn a title shot for the high flyer at Mania.

On a night that featured the first-ever Women's main event in Mania history, it was the story of Kingston's journey that took the center stage. KofiMania came to life as Kofi defeated Bryan in one of the best 'Mania World Title matches in recent history to become the first African-born WWE Champion.

In a year that was highly deficient of memorable feuds, WWE gave the fans a rivalry that will forever be etched in the minds of the fans.
