Rangers' Chris Kreider reflects on woeful 2022/23 campaign, lays down expectations for upcoming season

Following the conclusion of the 2022-23 NHL season, New York Rangers winger Chris Kreider spoke openly about the difficulties the club encountered.

Mollie Walker, an NHL reporter, shared some comments from Kreider on social media.

Kreider said the team would use the disappointments of the 2022-23 campaign as motivation for next season.

“I think like every guy on that team, I've got a pit in my stomach. I expect that to turn into a bit of a chip on everyone's shoulder."

The Rangers secured a place in the postseason, but were eliminated by the New Jersey Devils in the first round, despite taking a 2-0 lead in the series.

New York Rangers' cap space ahead of 2023 season

The New York Rangers have a cap space of $6.175 million after the initial wave of free agency activities. However, they will need to find a way to sign restricted free agents K'Andre Miller and Alexis Lafreniere to new contracts.

The team successfully recruited Jonathan Quick to fill the crucial position of a backup goalie. Along with defensemen Erik Gustafsson and Connor Mackey, they also strengthened their forward line by bringing in players like Blake Wheeler, Tyler Pitlick, Nick Bonino, Riley Nash, and Alex Belize.

The fact that each of these signings was accomplished for less than $1 million is in line with the Rangers' priorities. As the offseason progresses and negotiations with RFAs unfold, these moves lay a promising foundation for the Rangers' future endeavors on the ice.
