Joelle King wins Macau Open, Joshna Chinappa loses in semis

Top seed Joelle King claimed the Macau Open title, winning in five games against Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy, the eighth seed.

The highest-ranked Indian player, Dipika Pallikal, seeded two, went past Liu Kwai Chi of Macao 11-3, 11-2, 11-1 in the first round before going down fighting to Omneya Abdel Kawy. The Egyptian, who is also on a comeback trail, edged out Dipika in the quarter-finals 9-11, 11-5, 6-11, 14-12, 11-7.

Joshna Chinappa made a strong impact at the event, reaching the semi-finals. Joshna Chinappa, after qualifying for the event, defeated higher-ranked Samantha Teran from Mexico in four games. In the quarter-final Joshna defeated Japanese Misaki Kobayashi in a close five-game encounter before bowing out to the eventual winner Joelle King in straight games.
