Wings for Life World Run 2024 to take place on May 5

The 11th edition of Wings for Life World Run is set to take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024, across different cities in India and around the world. The start time for the event is set to 4:30 pm IST.

Hundreds to thousands of people of all fitness levels will participate in the event dedicated to finding a cure for the spinal cord injury. The participant can run, roll in a wheelchair, jog, or simply walk. The participants run until the Virtual Catcher car catches them. The car takes off 30 minutes after the race starts at a speed of 14kph.

Wings for Life is a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation, that has been funding clinical trials for everything related to the spinal cord. As a result. the entire entry fees and donations will be spent on spinal cord research.

Colin Jackson, the British hurdling legend who is the event’s International Sports Director hopes that the 2024 edition will draw more participants than 2023. He also added that each new registration instills hope in people affected by spinal cord injury.

“I’m so excited that the Wings for Life World Run 2024! In the previous edition of the Wings for Life World Run we had a record number of participants, and our goal is to see even more people on the starting line in May," Jackson said in a statement.

“We’re thrilled that this is the largest running event in the world, and we’re extremely proud of our participants, because each new registration brings real hope to everyone affected by spinal cord injury," he added.

Indian shuttler, Ashwini Ponnappa, who recently qualified for Paris Olympics in the women's doubles event with Tanisha Crasto, urged everyone to participate in the run.
