WWE NXT 17th February 2016 - 5 Points to note

Another controversial finishThis episode was well hyped in advance for the match between Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe to determine the number one contender to the title that Finn Balor holds. After the controversial ending to the triple threat bout two weeks ago – where both of them made Baron Corbin submit – William Regal booked a singles match between the two to let the dust finally settle on who deserves to face Finn Balor. The opening match of the night saw an 8-man tag team showdown and it was more than just the chaos and was sort of a sign for the things to come. Here are the 5 points to note from this weeks’ show-

#1 Shadowed by controversy again.

Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe are so used to the level of performance in the main event that there is no doubt about this being worth the time that went into this story. Controversy seems to still hound them as both men had their shoulders down during the final pinfall of the match after both had each other covered.

The referee announced the match a draw with Willian Regal is still trying to get to the bottom of all of this and get a clear contender to Balor’s title. This cliffhanger could easily be countered by announcing a triple threat match for the title, but maybe NXT has something better in mind and given its history it is all worth the wait.

#2 Organized chaos

The 8-man tag team match that opened the show was good enough to highlight the difference between each team involved and how great they are in their own right. Dash and Dawson are the technicians that make everything look painful and old-school.

Jordan and Gable are those technicians who make everything look exhilarating. Amore and Big Cass add their veteran touch of being the most over and entertaining tag team on the roster while Blake and Murphy are doing their bit of character work by being Alexa Bliss fanboys.

Also, Jordan and Gable are coming for the title soon, or atleast that was what was so intriguing that came out from this match.

#3 Asuka squash

Asuka is the most badass performer WWE has signed this year. The variation of moves she portrays in each and every match is something to behold. She basically had a squash match in this episode and given the history of squash matches in WWE, they are not really the interesting ones to watch.

But Asuka is someone, who on the strength of her versatility, can really make a squash worth the watch. She had the familiar detractors during her match with Emma and Dana Brooke back to kind of haunt her. But obviously that did not help matters get worse for Asuka

#4 The story matters

Emma should ideally win the NXT

Emma and Dana Brooke played the usual detractors for Asuka this week and it has come to the point that it’s a bit overbearing, but given how much they’ve grown into this role, this isn’t essentially a complaint.

As a part of a story between them and Asuka, this works. Also, if and when Asuka takes away the title from Bayley, it’ll be something to imagine who takes away the title from , and there actually won’t be a better performer than Emma to do that. Maybe way later on in Asuka’s impending title reign, but the story between these two is just too good to not continue in the future.

#5 Jax is still in the hunt

Jax asked Asuka to mind her own business this week

This episode was also another reminder that on the road to Takeover: Dallas, Eva Marie and Nia Jax still pose threats to Bayley and her title.

Jax thinks that if she had been cleared to compete in the Battle Royale, she would have easily won and faced Bayley and consequently won the title from The Hugster. Well, Marie was quite happy about Jax not being cleared, it’ll be interesting to see where that leads to.

Jax also addressed Asuka, telling her to not mind her trying to get to Bayley. The heels will face Carmella and Bayley next week, which ought to be interesting.
