The Witcher season 4 is all set to be a fascinating but different journey, with Liam Hemsworth taking over Henry Cavill's famed role. This season is also set to add several new cast members, many of whom have already been revealed. Among the latest additions is the highly acclaimed Laurence Fishburne, who will reportedly take up the role of Regis.

Regis is an interesting character in the lore of The Witcher who first appeared in the novel Baptism of Fire. The character has been described as "a world-wise barber-surgeon with a mysterious past who joins Geralt on his journey," as per Variety, who also reported the signing.

Laurence Fishburne joins Liam Hemsworth, Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, and Joey Batey in the fourth season.

Production is expected to start very soon, which will also see a change in direction, especially after the exit of the series lead last year.

Who is Emiel Regis in The Witcher?

In The Witcher Universe, Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy, or simply Regis, is a mighty higher vampire. He was over 400 years old when he came across Geralt of Rivia. Regis was the barber-surgeon of Dillingen and was also extremely knowledgeable.

By appearance, the character resembled an ordinary middle-aged man with a crooked nose and sharp features.

He first made his videogame appearance in Blood and Wine, an expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Before that, the character had been a part of the universe and was often mentioned in the games and books.

However, his first official appearance goes back to the book Baptism of Fire, where he emerges around the middle of the story.

The TV series will have a fascinating character with Regis and perhaps do much more with the higher vampire, given that the talented Laurence Fishburne is at the helm.

Who is Laurence Fishburne?

Laurence John Fishburne III is an American actor who has been in the industry since 1972. He has earned three Emmy Awards and a Tony Award for his work on screen and stage.

The actor is perhaps best known for his role as Morpheus in The Matrix series, a character that still remains prominent in pop culture. His credits also include Tyrone "Mr. Clean" Miller in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now, Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple (1985), Spike Lee's School Daze (1988), Abel Ferrara's King of New York (1990), Clint Eastwood's Mystic River (2003), Steven Soderbergh's Contagion (2011), and Richard Linklater's Last Flag Flying (2017), among many others.

The Witcher season 4 is set to enter production in January 2024. This comes after filming was significantly delayed by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike. With this shooting schedule, the series is expected to premiere sometime between mid-to-late 2025.

The synopsis for the final season reads:

"After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again."

The first three seasons of the show are available for streaming on Netflix.
