On January 12, Spotify took to X to shade Lil Nas X's new single, J Christ. The rapper earlier claimed to be studying theology and began implementing the religious principles by releasing his new single, J Christ. The tweet was captioned as:

"LNX is back with more mid-music (Shrugging emoji)"

After Lil Nas got wind of the diss, he responded with a viral clip from when an inmate attacked a Nevada judge and captioned it with:

"Me at the Spotify headquarters tomorrow."

After their interaction went viral, netizens took to X to roast the singer.

"The social media manager woke up and decided to spit facts," say Netizens about Spotify's diss at Lil Nas X

Lil Nas' new song received backlash from the Christian community as well after it's release on January 6. His post with the caption:

"MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME!"

Received backlash as one writer wrote:

"Oh gee whiz I'm sure this won't be as blasphemous as possible."

Christian rapper Kory Yeshua also reacted to the new release, saying:

"People will defend this because they worship these celebrities. They have made idols out of these celebrities. People need to realize there is a spiritual war happening between the light and the dark, between good and evil."

Back in December 2023, the rapper began teasing his new music and stated that he was entering his "Christian era." In the same month, he posted a cover art depicting himself as Jesus on the cross. He also claimed that his new video will premiere in churches and uploaded a TikTok video of himself dressed as Jesus. In the video, he can be seen taking shots of red wine and entering communion wafers.

While some netizens pointed out that Spotify's diss is a marketing plan and Lil Nas X has paid the tweets to promote his new song, others agreed with Spotify and went on to call the artist's music "mid."

His online claims caught the attention of netizens after he reportedly claimed that he would attend the conservative Liberty University of Biblical Studies.

The artist also went on to claim that the media stopped supporting him after he adopted religious imagery. He vowed to "expose" the music industry and allegedly claimed the industry blackballed him.

The rapper is not new to sparking religious controversy. In 2021, he was bashed for his video for Montero (Call Me By Your Name) featuring a depiction of Satan. The rapper had also collaborated with fashion brand MSCHF to release Satan Shoes.
