The New York Jets recently traded Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos. The Jets drafted Wilson with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but after three poor years, the franchise decided to part ways with the 24-year-old quarterback.
Wilson's mother Lisa recently posted a message reflecting on her son's time in New York and thanked everyone who supported the family during a tough tenure. She said:
"Thank you for your kind words. They mean a lot to me. I met some really amazing people during our time with the Jets."
Last season, when Aaron Rodgers joined the New York Jets, many anticipated that his veteran presence would assist Wilson. Everything looked good before the season began, but once Rodgers got hurt, the young quarterback was thrown into the fire, and like many assumed, Wilson was not ready.
He was benched later in the season and it signaled the end of his career in New York. Fortunately for the BYU product, he now joins Sean Payton in Denver, and if there was any head coach in the NFL who could bring the best out of him, it's Payton.
Zach Wilson might start next season as Bo Nix's backup in Denver
Zach Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos before the 2024 NFL Draft, but the AFC West team later drafted Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick. Although the franchise hasn't made a decision yet, it is expected that Nix will be the starting quarterback in Week 1.
Both Nix and Wilson are currently 24 years old, and given the fact that the latter played five years in college, Sean Payton might trust him more than Wilson.
Wilson's career is at a very crucial point. If he fails to impress Payton in Denver, then there is a strong possibility that he might not play in the NFL ever again. Hopefully, the former Jets quarterback will be able to redeem himself and keep his job, even if it is as a backup to Nix.
Wilson threw for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions in 34 games for the Jets before getting traded to the Broncos.
