“Desperate”: Cowboys fans take aim at potential Ezekiel Elliott reunion

Ezekiel Elliott might become part of the Dallas Cowboys roster once again, after a year-long hiatus with the New England Patriots. The Cowboys currently do not have a reliable starter in the running back position and are looking to bring back Elliott, which has caused friction online.

Elliott was drafted by the Cowboys as the fourth pick in 2016. After spending seven seasons with the team, the RB signed for the Patriots. His adventures did not bear much fruit and he could be on his back as per the Dallas Morning News.

Hours before Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft, Cowboys fans were hit with the possibility of seeing Ezekiel Elliott leading the team once again, and they weren't happy.

“Desperate,” wrote one fan.

Several fans took jibes at Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for his “all in” comments.

“All in” LMFAOOOOOOOO,” joked one fan.

“Crazy how they could just draft a RB in a few hours but they do this,” wrote one Cowboys supporter.

“Sometimes God will put people from ya past back in ya life to see if you’re still stupid,” wrote another fan on X.

Some, however, liked the idea:

“F*** yes! I know he’s washed but at least he’s back home where he belongs. Welcome back 21,” wrote this fan.

Ezekiel Elliott could be back where he started

The Cowboys front office has a lot of respect for Ezekiel Elliott and this could be the major reason behind his comeback. Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones said to The Athletic after Day 1 of the draft:

“Zeke, as we all know, is one of our favorites, He’s laid it on the line for this franchise. He’s the ultimate competitor, and we obviously think a lot of him.”

Only time will tell whether this move pans out or not and if it ends up being as successful as Zeke’s first run with the Cowboys. While his numbers declined on a yearly basis with Dallas, he is still a popular figure with many in the franchise.
