MONTREAL, CANADA – JUNE 10: Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain and McLaren celebrates on the podium after winning the Canadian Formula One Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June 10, 2012 in Montreal, Canada.

Lewis Hamilton has won the 2012 Canadian Grand Prix with a time of 1:32:29.586. He won the race for the third time and he now leads the Drivers’ Championship. Romain Grosjean and Sergio Pérez became second and third.

On Saturday, Vettel had claimed his second consecutive pole position, however, he did not manage to achieve his goal to be Red Bull’s first victory in Montreal. Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso where behind the World Champion in the grid and Hamilton finally came in first.

The race had a clean start and most drivers stayed in the grid order during the first couple of laps. Felipe Massa moved past Nico Rosberg after a great battle, but spun out of contention at Turn 2, just a couple of minutes later.

The first changes began to show in the top three. The race started to become more exciting thanks to some pit lane action. Sebastian Vettel was caught by Hamilton and Alonso, and decided to peel off on the 16th lap. Hamilton did the same, just one lap later. Hamilton passed Alonso in the DRS zone, and had his leading advantage from this moment.

The Frenchman Romain Grosjean, clinched his best Formula 1 result to date by climbing from seventh on the grid to second place in the Canadian Grand Prix. His teammate Kimi Räikkönen came from twelfth on the grid to eighth at the finish line. Lotus F1 team is now the second highest scoring team over the last four races and have the second highest number of podiums this season.

It was a difficult day for the Williams F1 Team, with Pastor Maldonado finishing 13th and Bruno Senna 17th. Senna lost time during his first stint on super soft tires before showing good consistent pace towards the end of the race. Pastor did make a good start to the race making up a number of places of the first lap.
