21:34 (IST)19 OCT 2018

PEEEEP, PEEEEEEEEP, PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPP!
Referee calls it a day at the Mumbai Football Arena and Mumbai City FC get their first win at the venue against FC Pune City.
Goals from Sougou and Bastos gift Mumbai their first full points (three) in the 2018-19 ISL and the boys are thrilled.
FC Pune City have been poor in front of the goal and hardly challenged Mumbai City FC after a few good moments at the beginning of the match. Marcelinho couldn't inspire them after coming off the bench in the second half.
Jorge Costa's Mumbai, on the other hand, made the best use of their chances and could have scored two more goals.
Lucian Goian stepped up to take a penalty and missed it towards the end of the game. Paulo Machado, the Mumbai City captain, was close and his effort came off the post before the referee blew the final whistle.
The stats may show that Pune dominated possession and had more shots on goal but all of that is of no use if a team isn't lethal up front.
That's it from Mumbai tonight. Stay tuned for more updates from Sportskeeda.

21:28 (IST)19 OCT 2018

90+5' OFF THE POST!!
Mumbai City's Paulo Machado pulls the trigger at the other end with a wonderful left-footer but the attempt kisses the right post and rolls away.

21:26 (IST)19 OCT 2018

90+4' Meanwhile, Pune hit Mumbai on the counter and Alfaro tries to get a late goal. He decides against it and then squares it to Matt Mills, whose shot is blocked.

21:25 (IST)19 OCT 2018

90+3' KAITH SAVES!
Mumbai City players have a heated discussion on who will take the penalty. Finally, Lucian Goian steps up and it's a poor take from him.
Kaith dives to the right and punches the ball away to come up with a great block in the dying moments of the game.

21:23 (IST)19 OCT 2018

90+2' WHAT THE.....PENALTY TO MUMBAI!
Vishal Kaith now steps out to clear the ball after Arnold beats the offside trap to stretch into the right flank.
Arnold outsmarts Kaith and then goes down to a foul by Gurtej. Referee points to spot and will we have a third goal here?

21:22 (IST)19 OCT 2018

90' Alfaro is close to scoring again!
Amrinder is out, nowhere close to the goal and Alfaro slips past him but Lucian Goian is there to save the day for Mumbai.
How did Alfaro get there, beyond all the Mumbai defenders? No one knows. But Mumbai solder on.

21:20 (IST)19 OCT 2018

89' Alfaro comes up with a late attempt.
He steps behind to get header onto the right post after a cross by Sarthak Golui.
But the attempt goes over the roof of the net and even if it hadn't, Amrinder was there.

21:18 (IST)19 OCT 2018

87' Now a comeback looks unlikely despite Marcelinho's 360 degree Zinedine Zidane type turn at the midfield, which tricks two Mumbai City players. But Goian rushes into the ball and wins possession, then wins a foul when a hopeful Marcelinho tries to overpower him.

21:16 (IST)19 OCT 2018

84' No goal?
The game is back and Marcelinho shoots into the goal right after the restart.
But it won't count. The ball has to make contact with another player after this type of drop-ball restart to the game.

21:14 (IST)19 OCT 2018

83' Six changes done in the game and it's Mumbai City who are making their final substitution. A couple of more minutes wasted for FC Pune City.
OFF - Raynier Fernandes (11)
ON - Milan Singh (6)

21:11 (IST)19 OCT 2018

80' Diego Carlos changes flank and he has a go at the goal from the right. The shot hardly has any power to challenge Amrinder and Mumbai City stay up once again.

21:08 (IST)19 OCT 2018

77' Sehnaj Singh of Mumbai City FC receives treatment and Mumbai make a substitution. Another foreigner out, and it's the second goalscorer who goes off for young 19-year-old Pranjal.
OFF - Rafael Bastos (16)
ON - Pranjal Bhumij (17)

21:06 (IST)19 OCT 2018

75' Coach Miguel Angel Portugal is now angry.
He's handing out instructions from the touchlines but it appears his boys are not paying attention.
He'll obviously be enraged. Pune City are nowhere close to their best.

21:03 (IST)19 OCT 2018

72' No inspiration from the midfield.
Pune have all the possession at their disposal and their attackers are making sneaky runs into the box. But there's no one - barring Diego Carlos - who is able to inspire some assists from the midfield. And Mumbai are waiting for Pune to come at them.

21:01 (IST)19 OCT 2018

66' Mumbai City make their first change as an Indian comes on for a foreigner, that too a goalscorer.
OFF - Modou Sougou (28)
ON - Mohammed Rafique (8)

20:58 (IST)19 OCT 2018

65' Alfaro hits the crossbar!
Diego Carlos does all the work again. He pushes himself down on the left flank and dips a cross into the box. Adil Khan can only manage a misdirected header but Pune keep the chance alive and float in another cross from the right, this time through Sarthak Golui.
The ball finds Alfaro at the left post and turns for space and then strikes the crossbar from a difficult angle.

20:54 (IST)19 OCT 2018

61' Talk about impact!
Diego Carlos' cross is only half-cleared and Marcelinho gets at the end of it from the edge of the box.
He unleashes a powerful one with his left but Amrinder is there to stand in front of it like a wall.

20:51 (IST)19 OCT 2018

59' So Pune make their third change as well, hoping to inspire a comeback for the ages.
OFF - Martin Diaz (21)
ON - Marcelinho (10)

20:49 (IST)19 OCT 2018

59' Pune make their second change and it's still not Marcelinho. Oh wait, he is!
OFF - Nikhil Poojary (11)
ON - Gurtej Singh (3)

20:46 (IST)19 OCT 2018

54' CHANCE FOR MUMBAI!
Rafael Bastos is sent through by Arnold in the right and the forward tries to play it back to Arnold after pushing through to the touchline. However, an alert FC Pune City defender steps ahead of Arnold and gets rid of the danger.

20:44 (IST)19 OCT 2018

52' Up and enjoying a two-goal cushion, Mumbai City are playing defensively at the moment. They are happy to sit back and ward off the attack set up by Pune midfielders, who are not posing much of a challenge at the moment.

20:40 (IST)19 OCT 2018

48' ALL WORK AND NO GOAL!
Diego Carlos drives in from the left after a 1-2 with Shouvik Ghosh and squares the ball to Robin Singh at the middle, nicely setting him up for a shot.
Robin tries to take the shot with his left and completely mistimes the attempt. The ball meekly bounces off his right leg and the chance goes to a waste.
Can we have Marcelinho at least now?

20:36 (IST)19 OCT 2018

46' Right. So the Stallions are down 0-2 and make no changes before the second half. Marcelinho, a proven gamechanger, is yet to come on.

20:26 (IST)19 OCT 2018

HT at the Mumbai Football Arena and Mumbai are 2-0 up.
The hosts came into the game with a purpose, looking to rewrite the record that was wholly against them. Even though they were slow at first, they stunned the FC Pune City with an early goal, which changed the momentum of the game.
Modou Sougou scores the first goal of the night, tucking in a cross which ricocheted off the right post.
Then, Lalchhuanmawia Fanai slides into Sougou inside the box, which gifts the hosts a penalty. When you watch the replay, you realise that Sougou goes for the fall even before Fanai's sliding tackle makes contact.
Nevertheless, Rafael Bastos ensures it's 2-0, giving the hosts an advantage.
Pune City have never lost at Mumbai Football Arena but that could change tonight.
Second half up!

20:22 (IST)19 OCT 2018

45+3' Well, barely five minutes after coming on, Robin Singh is booked for a foul on Mumbai City's Sehnaj Singh. And that's all the action from the first half of the Maha Derby.

20:18 (IST)19 OCT 2018

There will be four minutes of added time due to the stoppage for Kuruniyan's treatment.

20:17 (IST)19 OCT 2018

45' MUMBAI 2-0 UP!
Rafael Bastos steps up to take the penalty.
Vishal Kaith dives to his left and looks down as Bastos fires it bang on the middle to give Mumbai City the edge before the half-time.
The record between these two teams will definitely tilt in favour of Mumbai now.

20:15 (IST)19 OCT 2018

43' PENALTY for Mumbai!!!
Fanai receives a booking for a foul in the box on goalscorer Sougou, who was on goal.
Mumbai hit the pedal on the counter after Alfaro has a shot on target.
And just before Sougou is about to unleash a shot, Fanai clips him and brings him down. No double punishment or else Pune would be down to 10.
But it kinda seems like Sougou reacts even before the contact is made.

20:14 (IST)19 OCT 2018

41' And that's the last we'll see of Ashique as he's forced off because of the challenge by Goian.
OFF - Ashique Kuruniyan (22)
ON - Robin Singh (23)

20:12 (IST)19 OCT 2018

39' Emiliano Alfaro down but no foul!
He is sent through by a Pune City midfielder and tries to power his way into the box. Subhasish Bose just clips him outside the box but Alfaro tries to surge on and then loses balance to take the fall just at the edge of the box.
Referee Santosh Kumar is not interested despite Alfaro's protests.

20:08 (IST)19 OCT 2018

35' Two players are down at the moment and it's because of a challenge by Lucian Goian on FC Pune City's Ashique Kuruniyan. Kuruniyan gets the ankle of Goian and goes down himself.
The challenge seemed rash on Goian but he's back on his feet.
Kuruniyan receives some treatment and the play is back on after 2 minutes. Pune playing with 10 men now.

20:04 (IST)19 OCT 2018

31' Jonathan Vila pushes Mumbai defender Lucian Goian down on the left and escapes a booking. Paulo Machado's take is poor again and Vishal Kaith easily collects the ball and tries to play the counter for Pune City.
Machado better stick to floating in crosses now as his set-pieces have been wasteful.

20:01 (IST)19 OCT 2018

28' Pune on the attack now.
Mumbai City FC custodian Amrinder Singh now comes up with a save to deny Nikhil Poojary.
FC Pune City's Fanai again dips in a pin-point cross to Poojary, who strikes goalwards on the volley. Amrinder is challenged and he just gloves away the danger to save his team. Before any other Pune attacker could jump on the block, Mumbai City defence clears away the danger.

19:58 (IST)19 OCT 2018

25' GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!
And who saw that coming? Modou Sougou has hardly been a threat all this while and he gives the hosts the lead against the run of play.
Vishal Kaith fails to react to a cross by Paulo Machado from the left - he thinks it has gone out of play. But it bounces off the right post and Sougou has only few seconds to react to it.
He changes his run instantly - the markers around him are standing helplessly - and drives the rebound into the net.

19:54 (IST)19 OCT 2018

21' CHANCE!
Here's an example of how teams can just run over the Mumbai City FC defence.
Emiliano Alfaro is sent through and he lifts it up from the touchline into the box as the defender still runs back to catch up to the Uruguayan striker.
Winger Nikhil Poojary is unmarked and he runs in to connect with the volley.
The shot takes a deflection from a Mumbai City defender and goes wide but the referee somehow has missed that and given a goal-kick for Mumbai City.

19:50 (IST)19 OCT 2018

18' First corner of the game and it's in favour of FC Pune City.
And it's completely wasted as Ashique Kuruniyan is barely able to float the ball into the near post.

19:48 (IST)19 OCT 2018

17' OFFSIDE!
Arnold Issoko is flagged offside after a run down the left flank a couple of minutes after the possession was dominated by FC Pune City.

19:46 (IST)19 OCT 2018

14' Left-back duties from the centre-back.
Subhasish Bose is playing as a centre-back here for Mumbai City FC but he's down on the side of the pitch to clear away the danger from the rushing FC Pune City attackers.

19:44 (IST)19 OCT 2018

10' CLOSE!
Paulo Machado
with a great delivery into the box.
Arnold Issoko goes for an overhead kick from the left post and the ball is chested down by Adil Khan of FC Pune City at the right post. His opponent Subhasish Bose is right there to tap it in but he is unable to hit anywhere near the frame.

19:42 (IST)19 OCT 2018

9' Referee Santosh Kumar books FC Pune City's Ashique Kuruniyan for pulling the jersey of Arnold Issoko. And Mumbai have a free-kick just outside the box on the right.

19:40 (IST)19 OCT 2018

8' Now it's Mumbai City FC who are making the visitors run around them. The possession between the two sides are almost equal now but it's still only a battle in the midfield.

19:37 (IST)19 OCT 2018

5' Way over the bar! Mumbai City have a free-kick now after Adil Khan and Sarthak Golui both converge on Rafael Bastos. Mumbai have a go at goal from 30 yards out and Paulo Machado hits it way off the target.

19:36 (IST)19 OCT 2018

4' FC Pune City controlling possession in the midfield in these early stages. They appear to have settled into this game already, making the Mumbai City players run around them. They, however, need to avoid those long balls from the defence into the attack, which is seeing them lose possession.

19:33 (IST)19 OCT 2018

1' Within 20 seconds of the match kicking off, Pune expose the frailties of the Mumbai City defence. Lalchhuanmawia Fanai (Chhuantea) pumps in a ball from the left flank into the centre of the box. Emiliano Alfaro sneaks in, rises high to greet it with a header, which goes just wide.
CLOSE!

19:30 (IST)19 OCT 2018

0' Okay it's for the Mumbai City FC vs FC Pune City game. It's just not any derby, it's the MAHA DERBY!

19:25 (IST)19 OCT 2018

The players are out on the pitch and we'll have the Indian national anthem first before the match kicks off...
Jana Gana Mana.....
Oh wait! Did you notice that? Lucian Goian of Mumbai City FC, a Romanian, is singing the Indian National Anthem again. He's definitely mouthing the words correctly.

19:16 (IST)19 OCT 2018

Maha Derby and Maha expectations from it! We're 15 minutes away from the kick off at Mumbai Football Arena and the players have completed their warm-ups and are back in the dressing room getting ready for 90 minutes of some thrilling football.

19:09 (IST)19 OCT 2018

Mumbai have never managed to keep a clean sheet in 2018. Amrinder Singh is one of India's best goalkeepers but the back four of Mumbai are letting them down. Left-back Subhasish Bose, who struggled as a centre-back during India's friendly draw against China, is starting this game as a stopper-back again.

19:01 (IST)19 OCT 2018

In the previous encounter between the two sides on Feb 11, Marcelinho and Diego Carlos struck as Pune went home with a 2-0 win. In the other leg on Nov 29, 2017, Balwant Singh scored for Mumbai City FC but a brace by Emiliano Alfaro gave Pune the three points.
