Yash Thakur (man of the match, Lucknow Super Giants): I never thought that I would be able to pick up a 5fer. Shubman was trying to make room and hit me but Rahul bhai told me to stick to plans and it paid off. Unfortunately, Mayank was injured but then Rahul bhai told me today is my day to deliver. There is always that fire within to beat the team you have never beaten before. I enjoyed Shubman's wicket the most (translated from Hindi)

KL Rahul (captain, Lucknow Super Giants): We will take the win. For the young bowling group we have, it gives them an idea about the surface. It is a good record to have, but it is also about the conditions. We saw how the wickets here in Lucknow were last time. We defended well and having a home advantage helps. The bowlers have come through the ranks, they are reading the wickets well. (About the decision-making on the field) I'm talking to them during practice and helping them decide on the ground. (On the pitch today) We knew that it wasn't a good wicket. We were not trying to think about the score we needed to put on, that's the advantage of batting first. If someone batted well in the middle and got a score of 70-80 runs, we were aiming at 170-180. We have to put on the score and expect the bowlers to do their job. The three spinners have done very well. (On spinners doing well this season)Sid does a great job with the new ball. He has given us the steady bowling and picked up a wicket but his job is more of restricting the batters. KP has played IPL for so many seasons and Bishnoi has been improving. (On breaking the duck against GT) Feels good to get off the mark against them.

Krunal Pandya (Lucknow Super Giants): When I went in, just the couple of balls I played, but I asked Pooran as well, he said the wicket was very good and he said, we were 10-15 short and end of the day, we got what we got and had to defend it. At the end of the day, I like to know batters strength and bowling according to it, some days it works, some days it doesn't. I back my strength and stuck to my plans, one of those days I executed what I wanted. It feels great, the way we've been defending in the entire tournament, in the last year as well and that's a confidence booster, end of the day, you still have to go out and execute it. I don't know what's happening, did have a brief couple of seconds chat and he seemed ok, bright prospect and he's worked hard in nets and he has a good head on the shoulders, really excited to see him do well in future.

Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans captain): It was a good wicket to bat on to be honest, just a poor batting performance from us. We got off to a decent start, but we lost too many wickets in the middle overs and never got back into the game. The bowlers were exceptional, to restrict them to just 160 was commendable, our batters let us down for sure. (On missing David Miller) He's the kind of a player who can change the game for you, we had a couple of injuries in this game but irrespective of that, this should've been a gettable total. (On being asked about backing away and trying to cut through the off-side) I thought it was the last over the powerplay, just wanted to capitalise, wanted to myself was a bit of room and the ball I got out was something I wanted to play into the on-side and I missed that ball. Umesh is very experienced, even Darshan bowled well. The bowlers have been brilliant, they got off to a decent start, but restricted them to that 160 total.

A first win for the Lucknow Super Giants over the Gujarat Giants. After missing out with the bat, they have turned up big time with the ball in hand and all their bowlers have delivered and how. 4-1 still in the favour of the Titans, but tonight is the night when they have suffered their second loss of the season.

GT, contrary to LSG, had an excellent start. They failed to take on the spin of M. Siddharth, but they were able to manage the pace on offer and score quick runs. Shubman Gill lost his wicket on the last ball of the powerplay, but GT ended the first six with 54 runs to their name.

Things began to go downhill from there on. Kane Williamson came in as an impact sub but was dismissed for a four-ball duck. Debutant BR Sharath failed to make an impact on debut with the bat in hand and Sai Sudharsan succumbed to the increasing pressure. The chase looked possible with Shankar and Tewatia in the middle but Vijay Shankar lost his wicket to a well-disguised slower one, with Rashid Khan following suit.

Tewatia waged a lone fight in the middle. He did take some deliveries at the start but towards the end, managed to dispatch the bad deliveries before handing Nicholas Pooran an easy catch. That was the nail in the coffin for GT as they were dismissed for 130 chasing a target in excess of 160.

LSG have been exceptional with the ball in hand. They had Mayank Yadav bowl only a solitary over but all the others chipped in with valuable contributions. Ravi Bishnoi and Naveen Ul Haq chipped in with a wicket each while Krunal Pandya scalped three wickets in his 4 overs spell. The star of the innings was Yash Thakur, who picked up his maiden IPL 5-fer and capped the game off with the wicket of Noor Ahmad.

That is that as Lucknow Super Giants break the losing streak against Gujarat Titans, and win their first game against them. Short into the batter, Noor with a pull but top-edged it straight up and QDK settles under it to pouch it safely.
