What's the story?

In a shocking incident that took place in the national capital, an 18-year-old kabaddi player was shot at by locals after there was a dispute regarding the scoring. The player, Avinash, was then rushed to a local hospital, where he was operated upon and declared out of danger.

According to local witnesses, a few spectators jumped in while Avinash was arguing with the opposition side. In a TOI report, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East Delhi) Romil Baaniya said, "At the end of the match, the player was arguing over the counting of the score. It turned into a scuffle and locals tried to intervene and stop the fight."

He added, "A few minutes later, two people from the crowd jumped on to the court." The two men then reportedly opened fire at Avinash and the bullet grazed his head. After the shot, the assailants ran away.

The match was a local game between two colonies in the Dakshinpuri area of Delhi. Avinash, a state-level player, was part of the C-Block team and the match was being held in Block 20.

The assailants shot at the player but he managed to duck as the bullet just scraped his head. Throughout the match, Avinash had reportedly complained about the referees, which had led to arguments over the course of the game.

He was rushed to a private hospital nearby and was immediately operated upon. His condition is said to be stable and that he is recovering well.

What's next?

The police detained a few locals after the incident for questioning and a case has been registered over an attempt to murder. The police have also stated that both the shooters have been identified and that teams have been deputed to locate and capture them.

It is a truly shocking and unfortunate incident, which brings to light the grievous situation in Delhi. However, it is good to know that the player is safe and that the assailants have been identified. We hope they are nabbed soon and punished accordingly.
