GTA 5 makes history with 200+ million copies sold to date: Take-Two Interactive

Grand Theft Auto 5, better known as GTA 5, is still setting records a decade after its release and becoming one of the most successful titles in the series so far. According to Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar Games’ parent company) Q4 investor conference, the game has sold over 200 million copies worldwide so far.

The company also revealed the total number of sales so far for the Grand Theft Auto franchise, alongside a confirmed release window for GTA 6.

Take-Two Interactive released its Q4 2024 press conference today, May 17, 2024, revealing the impressive GTA 5 sales figure. According to the company, the title has now sold over 200 million copies, with 5 million going in the last quarter alone. It still holds the title of the “best-selling title of the past 10 years in the U.S.” as per the company.

The success of GTA 5 also contributed to the overall success of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, which has now sold over 425 million copies. The franchise also saw an increase of 5 million sales since last quarter.

Note that Grand Theft Auto Online comes bundled with every copy of Grand Theft Auto 5, which is why most fans buy the game for in 2024. The developers are also supporting the title with regular in-game events, like the recent GTA Online weekly update. However, the microtransactions in the online multiplayer juggernaut have seen a slowdown in sales but an increase in Plus membership revenue.

Additional noteworthy news is the Grand Theft Auto 6 release time frame finally being narrowed down to fall 2025. The company announced it during the earnings call, and remained confident to deliver “an unparalleled entertainment experience.”
