Shane Lowry has had a splendid day at Valhalla in the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship. The 106th edition of the tournament is being held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

The World No. 43 in the OWGR rankings, Lowry, created a record when he shot 6 under 29 on the front nine. He made six birdies on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th holes. The 37-year-old golfer became the first player to score under 30 on either the front or back nine at the PGA Championship in Valhalla. Valhalla is hosting the tournament for the fourth time this year.

Shane Lowry finished his round with three more birdies on the back nine on the 13th, 14th and 17th holes. He scored an overall bogey-free 62 with 9 under par in the third round. After the round, the Irishman gifted his golf ball to a young fan among the spectators.

Here's a video of the incident:

Shane Lowry is currently tied for the fourth position with Bryson Dechambeau and Viktor Hovland. They have an overall score of 13-under 2000 after three days at the PGA Championship. Lowry jumped 25 positions from T29. He's two strokes behind Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa tied for the first position.

In the post-round press conference, Shane Lowry talked about his performance in the tournament so far. He said (via PGA Tour):

"I feel like tee-to-green, I've been as good as I've ever been this year, and then I come out the first two days, it was probably the worst I've played in a long time, but my putter kept me going and kept me in the tournament."

He further said that he went to the range yesterday afternoon with his coach and highlighted the problem was an alignment issue:

"I was set up too far left and all sorts of bad things happen for me when I do that. Fixed that, and went out there today, played with a little bit of freedom, and managed to do that score. I've sort of felt all season that if I could warm my putter up that I could be dangerous."

Shane Lowry will tee off with Sahith Theegala at 2:25 pm ET on Sunday, May 19.
