PGA of America release statement after PGA Championship vendor gets killed by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla

The first round of the PGA Championship largely got off without a hitch, but the second round did not. Before the second round began, a vendor was struck and killed by a shuttle bus. This led to a delay in the start of the second round.

Shortly after, The PGA Championship's X (formerly Twitter) account released a statement expressing their heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim.

The PGA's statement read:

"This morning we were devastated to learn that a worker with one of our vendors was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club. This is heartbreaking to all of us involved with the PGA Championship. We extend our sincere condolences to their family and loved ones.”

The victim was identified as a man who was reportedly crossing the road heading south to north when he was hit by a bus that was going east in the compulsory center lane dedicated for buses. He passed away before he could be transported to a hospital. It was a single-person crash, so no one else was affected.

Reports state that this crash is not directly related to the traffic incident that led to Scottie Scheffler's arrest before the second round. He was detained and then released before arriving at Valhalla.

PGA Championship round was delayed after fatal crash

Weather has plagued golf all year long, and it reared its ugly head again in the PGA Championship previews. Golfers couldn't practice and the press conferences were canceled. This time, the delay in the tournament was attributed to a fatal crash rather than the weather.

The accident occurred around 5 am EST. The round was slated to begin at roughly 7 am EST. After the delay, the round officially started at 8:35 am. There was an hour and 20 minute delay in total.

As per the reports, a similar accident took place on Thursday at the same spot, when a shuttle bus and SUV crashed, slowing down traffic, and causing transportation delays to fans trying to get to the tournament.
