Rory McIlroy, World No. 2, has odds of +3300 as per ESPN Bet to win the 2024 PGA Championship going into the third day. This is far less than his starting odds of +550 at the beginning of the tournament. The first two rounds of the 2024 PGA Championship have concluded at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

McIlroy, who won the last two tournaments hoped to imitate his performances. However, after the end of the second day, McIlroy was tied for 22nd position with Taylor Moore and Alejandro Tosti. He fell 17 positions after he carded 5-under 66 and was tied at the fifth position after the first round. Post round, he said (via Irish Independent):

"Yeah, I think (that I have the form). I didn't really get anything clicking today. My short game and my putting were clicking yesterday and that's what got me round in five under (66)."

Rory McIlroy carded 71 with an even par on Friday, May 17. He scored two birdies on the first and seventh holes and a bogey on par-4 sixth on the front nine. He conceded a double bogey on the par-4 12th and failed to score a birdie on the back nine. Talking about the double bogey, he said:

"I obviously wanted to get a lot more out of my round than I did but I did the double bogey on 12 sort of halted any momentum that I had.”

McIlroy said he needs to score in the ranges of mid-60s to win the tournament. He said (via Irish Independent):

"I sort of need to try to get all of my game in working order tomorrow to try to shoot a good score like that. But yeah, I need something in the low to mid-60s to give myself a reasonable chance going into the last day."

Rory McIlroy won the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship and PGA Tour event Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Shane Lowry going into the tournament. He won the 2014 PGA Championship after winning two events and is hoping to repeat the performance.
