Fortnite's Mystique skin is pay-to-win and new invisibility glitch proves it

Ever since the Mystique skin was added to Fortnite via the Battle Pass in Chapter 2 Season 4, players have found interesting ways to use her Shapeshifter Built-In Emote. It works by allowing players to turn into the most recent enemy they've defeated. This has led to it being dubbed by some as a "pay-to-win" cosmetic.

Those who own the skin have been able to pull off 200 IQ plays simply by pretending to be NPCs on the island. While it doesn't always work, it's worth trying anything to get the upper hand in combat. That said, thanks to the recent Chrome mechanics, Mystique can do more than just shapeshift, she can become invisible.

Here's how to become invisible using Mystique and Chrome Splash in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4

  • Enter a match and use Mystique's Shapeshifter Built-In Emote (it has to be a male skin)
  • Next, use Chrome Splash and change into a Blob
  • Once done, the shapeshifting skin and Chrome effect will be lost
  • If done correctly, the character will not be visible to enemy players

Keep in mind that this glitch is limited to console players only. Nevertheless, when done correctly, it will give them an edge in combat and every other aspect of the match.

While it does work for PC players as well, the glitch sort of glitches itself. To elaborate, the only thing that will glitch out will be the character's shoulders. It will seem dislocated and out of place. It's unclear why this is happening, but it seems to be a graphical bug in Fortnite.

Is it safe to use the new Chrome invisibility glitch with the Mystique skin?

Well, since it is an in-game bug/glitch, using the new Chrome invisibility glitch with the Mystique skin should be okay, but that said, since it does give players an unfair advantage, it's not the best option. If a player using this gets reported by multiple users, Epic Games will take action and may suspend or ban the account.

While this verdict can be challenged, it's unclear if Epic Games will overturn the suspension or ban. That said, it will likely be temporary. Nevertheless, it's best to avoid using it during a live match and restrict its usage on personal Creative maps with friends. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Will Epic Games fix this bug in the upcoming Fortnite update v22.20?

Given that the glitch was discovered mere moments ago, it's unlikely that the developers will be able to resolve the issue in a few hours. Since the glitch in question has to do with cosmetics and in-game mechanics/items, it's not that straightforward.

Furthermore, with the update for Fortnitemares 2022 due on October 18, the developers are likely preoccupied with doing a final check on the files. This leaves no room for taking a deep dive into the newly discovered glitch.

In all probability, Epic Games may disable Mystique's Shapeshifter Built-In Emote in Fortnite until a fix can be issued. While this would be unfair to those who own the skin and want to use it in-game, it's for the greater good of the community. Since disabling Chrome Splashes is out of the question, this is the best option developers have on the table.
