Although Fortnite's graphics have evolved over the years, and more recently improved when the game shifted over to Unreal Engine 5, not everyone is happy about it. For some old-school OG players, the "old graphics" were and still are the best, ranging from the old textures to colorations.

While many can debate this facet of the game, it's impossible to revert to the good old days and experience things as they were, or is it? According to YouTuber Glitch King, there's now a method to 'travel back in time' and experience the game as it was at the beginning.

How to get OG graphics in Fortnite - A step-by-step guide

Players may assume that they simply have to change a few settings to get the game's OG graphics, but it's now simpler than imaginable. Everything is done in-game and is easy enough for any player to try out. With that said, follow these steps to enjoy Fortnite's OG graphics:

  • Enter Creative Mode and load into a custom map or use a code to get to a map that has a Changing Booth
  • Enter the Changing Booth and change to any skin
  • Once the selection is done, press the associated button with "Return To Game"
  • Just before leaving the Changing Booth, select any other skin
  • Once the character leaves the Changing Booth, players will have OG graphics

If these steps were followed correctly, the graphics should look like old Fortnite. This includes everything from texture to coloration and saturation. Sadly, this change is not permanent, and will go back to normal as soon as players return to the Main Menu or Creative Hub.

For players looking to return to modern graphics on the current Creative Map, they can easily cancel the OG graphics by following these quick steps:

  • Enter the Changing Booth
  • Wait for a few seconds
  • Leave the Changing Booth

Once the character exits the Changing Booth, the game will revert back to normal graphics, with Unreal Engine 5 kicking in. Nevertheless, since this glitch can be performed as and when needed, players can always visit the OG days anytime.

Will Epic Games ever make an OG graphics mode for Fortnite?

While the idea does sound intriguing, executing it will require a lot more than wishful thinking. Despite the files for the game's OG graphics still being available to Epic Games, implementing them in-game will not be an easy task.

Since the primary focus is on the game's Battle Royale mode and storyline, there's not enough manpower to dedicate to other unnecessary projects. Even if there were, an OG graphics mode may not impress new players and a large majority of the community.

Given how everyone has become accustomed to how things look in 2022 from a graphical perspective, going back to the graphics from 2017 may not be ideal. While the mechanics and everything else may work just fine, Fortnite will not feel like "Fortnite" for many new players.

Taking all this into consideration, creating an OG graphics mode is not a practical ask. The closest thing that players can get to the good old days is the Save The World mode. However, since it's not free-to-play, that's not a viable solution for everyone.

With technology leapfrogging at an astronomical rate, the game will likely evolve graphically and look vastly different in the coming years. In this case, it's best to say, "It is what it is," accept things for what they are, and keep grinding for those sweet Victory Royales.
