Gary Lineker has pinpointed the changes to be made for VAR to be better-suited to the Premier League. The technology has recently come under heavy scrutiny, and clubs are set to vote on whether to keep or scrap it next season. Lineker has suggested a few changes.

Lineker has said that goal-line technology and off-side should stay. He also suggested that the rest of the technology should be used on an appeal-based system.

He also suggested that there should be a limit on the number of times VAR can intervene. Lineker said on the Rest Is Football podcast (via GOAL):

"The only way out of this mess, and I think they should keep offside and goal-line technology.
"But I think you either scrap the rest of it or, or more realistically, you take it to an appeal system. You limit the amount of times that VAR can intervene. It cannot intervene unless someone appeals."

Lineker added:

"It has to be the captain and they have got to tell you what they're appealing for. It doesn't mean there's a goal, and you've got to find some kind of foul somewhere."

Lineker added that captains should be appealing inside the 20-second window. He further suggested that teams should have only one appeal per half. This way the technology intervening regularly in every Premier League game can be stopped.

Jurgen Klopp speaks out on the VAR controversy in the Premier League

Premier League clubs are set to vote on scrapping VAR. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that clubs aren't looking to vote to scrap VAR. Rather, they're voting against the way it's being used.

Klopp added that it can't continue the way it's going right now (via MyKhel):

"I don't think they're voting against VAR, I think they'll vote against how it gets used. Because that's definitely not right, I can understand that. In the way they do it, I would vote against it, because these people aren't able to use it properly."

Klopp suggested that VAR isn't the problem, rather the usage of it is. Hence, he will be voting to scrap it.
