Manchester United legend Gary Neville has hailed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Neymar as a fantastic player but believes he would prove to be a catastrophic signing for Newcastle United.

Neymar has recently been linked with a move to Premier League’s up-and-comers Newcastle United. Renowned journalist Dean Jones has claimed that some members of the club hierarchy love the idea of Neymar playing for them, adding that they could try their luck this summer.

On his official podcast, Neville gave his opinion about the Brazilian’s potential transfer to Tyneside, stating that the move would turn Eddie Howe’s side into a circus.

“That would scare me to death, that sort of signing,” said Neville (via Metro).
“Neymar is a sensational player but Eddie Howe would have a sort of circus. Eddie Howe doesn’t need a circus up here. You think about what Newcastle are at this moment in time, they’re building, they have foundations. What you don’t want to do is disrupt that, the fans are right behind the team.”

He continued:

“There’s a spirit building, the atmosphere was electric in the first 10 minutes. They are going to need to do it at some point and go for the big name signings and be brave at a point and say let’s do it.
“But if they are a 25 or 26 year-old for £100 million that sort of player is likely to go somewhere else in Europe at this moment in time so you might end up getting offered a 32-year-old and Eddie might think, well, no. Eddie and Dan Ashworth are going to have to be strong with the ownership.”

Neymar, 31, has enjoyed a stellar career at Barcelona and PSG, winning a Champions League trophy and four domestic titles, amongst other honors.

The Brazilian attacker, who joined PSG in the summer of 2017 for a record €222 million fee, sees his contract expire in June 2025.

PSG holding talks with Champions League winning manager Jose Mourinho’s agent

According to French outlet RMC Sport, PSG are interested in recruiting AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho as Christophe Galtier’s successor.

The French tactician failed to guide the Parisians past the Round of 16 stage in the UEFA Champions League this season and fell short in the Coupe de France as well. The PSG hierarchy are reportedly unhappy with Galtier’s performances and want to bring in a more experienced coach as his successor.

It has been claimed that PSG's Sporting Director Luis Campos is personally holding talks with Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes.

Mendes reportedly wants Mourinho to leave Rome for Paris, where the two-time Champions League-winning manager (2004, 2010) would have a much bigger transfer kitty to work with. The manager is also believed to be interested in managing Les Parisiens.

The former Real Madrid manager's contract with Roma runs until June 2024.
