George Russell recently summarized the 2023 F1 US GP and how he was unable to bag a decent position in the race. He also touched upon how he is not able to perform as expected throughout the season and has missed several opportunities that came his way.

Speaking after the race in Austin, George Russell explained how his middle stint on hard tires was quite strange compared to his last stint, where he was the quickest. Overall, Russell feels he missed an opportunity for a good position in the race. He said (via F1.com):

"I think we had a really strange middle stint on the hard tire. We were about a second off the pace, but in the last stint, we were the quickest car on track. We closed the gap to Max by about 10 seconds, Lewis by a couple of seconds."

Furthermore, he outlined his 2023 F1 season from hindsight and stated how many times he has stated that he missed a good opportunity compared to 2022. The Mercedes driver admitted that he needs to think about the lack of pace and performance and come back stronger.

"Standing here now, a little bit frustrated about the missed opportunity. Which is the story of the season. I feel like every time I stand in this TV pen, I’m saying it was a missed opportunity.
"Whereas last year, I think out of 22 or 23 races, there was only one race where I was saying we missed an opportunity. Really need to have a think about what’s going on, because it’s not for a lack of pace and performance."

At the 2023 F1 US GP, George Russell finished fifth after both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton got disqualified from the race. Despite Hamilton's disqualification, the seven-time world champion was much faster than his teammate. As of now, Russell is eighth in the drivers' championship table with 143 points, while Hamilton is third with 201 points.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell working from home to help Mercedes improve

Mercedes technical director James Allison recently revealed how Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been working from the comfort of their homes and giving valuable feedback to the team about the car's development. As quoted by Motorsport.com, Allison said:

"The drivers have been good enough to put aside time for us in a slightly cooler environment of home. That has proved useful; it's proved helpful for ranking the problems they have, for seeing the opportunities and just making sure that the things that we are working on are well aligned with what they're describing."

This shows how much Lewis Hamilton and George Russell want the Silver Arrows to bounce back to the top and compete with Red Bull and Max Verstappen in 2024.
