Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is not giving up on the Formula One championship despite finishing in 9th at Monza.

“When I got out of the car I was angry, and definitely thought that would be it. But I’ve been back with my engineers and I’m not going to give up,” he said.

Hamilton struggled to find his maximum pace at Monza after his car developed a slow puncture following an early pit stop.

The Brit also said that he was disappointed with himself after making a mistake in the second part of the qualifying which forced him to start the race at 12th.

“I blew it in qualifying and it was impossible to catch up. The radio failed in the race and I didn’t know what the hell was going on. I missed my pit stop by quite a few laps. It was a disaster of a weekend,” he said.

Hamilton said that he hopes for a good finish at Singapore on 22 September if he is to have any chance of keeping up with Sebastian Vettel.

“I basically need to win every race, which is the tallest order ever, but I can do nothing but try,” he added.
