“I disagree with it”: Michael Schumacher at his peak was ‘no way’ quicker than peak Lewis Hamilton, claims F1 pundit

Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain and Mercedes talks to the media in the Paddock after the F1 Grand Prix of Miami

F1 pundit Peter Windsor disagrees with James Allison's take that Michael Schumacher was quicker than Lewis Hamilton during their peak on a single lap.

The Mercedes technical director made the claim that he found the German, at his peak, faster than the Briton, in his peak, in qualifying. Although, Hamilton has 103 pole positions compared to Schumacher's 68.

During his Live Stream on his YouTube channel, Windsor said:

“I think engineers are entitled to their opinion, but I’ve had my fair share of race engineers, and performance engineers, giving their opinion on drivers. And most of their opinions are based on conversations with the drivers in debriefs, or in the car, lap times, quality of handshake, and what it’s like having dinner, very few are based on actually watching the driver out on the circuit and looking at what he does."

He added:

“And I’m not saying that James Allison doesn’t know exactly what he’s talking about, I’m sure he’s basing all that on all his own information, but to me, there is absolutely no way in the world Michael Schumacher, at his peak, was quicker over one lap than Lewis Hamilton at his peak over one lap, no way. Sorry, I just totally don’t get that, I disagree with it.”

"I'd be lying if I said I'd never thought about ending my career anywhere else" - Lewis Hamilton

The Mercedes driver stated that he has thought about ending his racing career with another team and leaving the former world champions behind.

Speaking with ESPN, Lewis Hamilton said:

"I'd be lying if I said I'd never thought about ending my career anywhere else. I started at McLaren, I'd like to think I'll always be a part of the McLaren family, I started there when I was 13 years old [as a junior driver], so I thought about what it would look like if I was at McLaren one day."

He added:

"I thought about and watched the Ferrari drivers on the screens at the track and of course, you wonder what it would be like to be in red... But then I go to my team, to Mercedes, and this is my home. I'm happy where I am. I haven't signed a contract yet, but we are working on one."

Lewis Hamilton's contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the season and there are no indications that he might not extend with the team.
