Fernando Alonso committed to a future at Ferrari: Flavio Briatore

F1 Grand Prix of Brazil

Fernando Alonso‘s manager Flavio Briatore has quashed any speculation of the Spaniard being tempted to join Red Bull.

Briatore insisted that Alonso’s remarks about wanting a different car was normal for an international player. He said “It’s normal for a racing driver to desire a competitive car and the team must work hard to supply it. End of story.”

“Alonso has never said he wants to leave. Ferrari-Alonso remains a winning pairing.

He also said that Alonso was not opposed to accept a tougher team mate.

“Fernando has never had problems with racing with anyone. He’s like Senna. Ayrton would say ‘place anyone next to me’. That’s what the strong are like.”

Alonso was uncomfortable with the way things were managed at McLaren; a top team ought to be able to manage atleast a couple of strong drivers.

According to Briatore it is crucial that Alonso gets a top car to enable him to start from the front and thereby put him in a better position to win races.

“He needs to have at his disposal a car that allows him to start from the top two rows. We knew it would be tough in Hungary, as it was when I was at Renault. They need to quickly find the instruction manual at Maranello.”
