India's ODI vice-captain has been doing good in limited-overs cricket ever since his promotion to the top of the order. His partnership with Shikhar Dhawan is one of the best in the present generation.

Rohit had a fantastic last year, where he scored more than 1000 runs.

The ODI vice-captain is now set to lead the side in the remaining of the New Zealand tour of India. He has continued his good form in this year too, scoring 345 runs in 6 matches with the help of a hundred and two fifties at an average of 58.

Looking at his limited-overs career stats, Rohit has scored 7799 runs, including 22 centuries and 39 half-centuries, at an average of 48 in 199 ODIs while, in T20Is, he has scored 2237 runs at an average of 33 in 90 matches. Rohit has 4 centuries and 15 half-centuries in T20I format.

Now, let's know, why is he regarded as one of the best ODI players.

Scoring runs at will

Sharma has been scoring tons of runs in the last seven years and more than 1000 runs in the last two years.

In 2018, he scored 1030 runs with the help of 5 centuries and 3 half-centuries, at an average of 74, in 19 ODIs.

The right-handed batsman makes sure that he lays a strong foundation at the top of the order for the players to follow. India is always certain of a good start with him and Dhawan opening the innings.

Responsible and Fearless

He has a sound technique and takes his time initially. The opener looks to rotate the strike early on, in the innings and once he gets his eyes in, he goes after the bowling. He has got all the shots in the book and scores the runs at a brisk pace.

Rohit is known for his aggressive shots and fearless approach but at the same time, being the vice-captain of the side, he takes the responsibility to get the runs at the top of the order. He has been scoring with an average of over 50 in the last seven years.

Three double-tons

Sharma is the only batsman in the history of the world cricket to score three double tons in one-day internationals. He became the third Indian and the third batsman in the history after Sachin and Sehwag to score a double-ton when he made 209 runs at a strike rate of 132 against the Aussies in November 2013. A year later, he scored his 2nd double ton (264), which is also the highest individual score by any batsman in one-day internationals. His third double also came against the same team in December 2017.

Immaculate striker of the ball

He is an immaculate hitter and the way he hits the ball easily out of the stadium, is proof of his abilities. He is in the top five players in the history of ODI cricket with the most number of sixes. He has 215 sixes as of now and is behind Shahid Afridi (351), Chris Gayle (275), Sanath Jayasuriya (270), and MS Dhoni (222).

Skill to bat for long

Three double-tons in ODI cricket speak volumes about his ability to bat for a long duration. There has been not one or two, but three instances when he has played more than 25 overs in a 50-over match. Sharma played 158, 153, and 173 in his innings of 209, 208*, and 264 runs respectively.

He takes time at the start and then capitalizes later on in the innings by hitting big shots. He is known for his quick scoring once he gets past his hundred.
