Who is India's leading run-getter against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup?

Team India will face Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14. The Men in Blue have a massive record to preserve as they have never lost to Pakistan in the ODI World Cup. The arch-rivals have clashed seven times, with the Men in Blue emerging victorious on each occasion.

Sachin Tendulkar was the Player of the Match when India met Pakistan for the first time in the One-day World Cup. He scored an unbeaten 54 off 62 balls in Sydney during the 1992 edition. The Men in Blue put up a competitive 216/7 batting first and went on to win the game by 43 runs.

Tendulkar is also the leading run-getter for India against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup. In five innings, he has scored 313 runs at an average of 78.25 and a strike rate of 83.24, with three half-centuries. The Master Blaster contributed 31 off 59 balls in the famous 1996 World Cup clash in Bengaluru.

The former India captain scored 45 off 65 balls in the 1999 World Cup match in Manchester, a game India won by 47 runs. Tendulkar then scored an iconic 98 off 75 balls in the 2003 ODI World Cup clash in Centurion. He struck 12 fours and a six as Team India chased down 275 in 45.4 overs, with six wickets in hand.

Tendulkar’s last World Cup match against Pakistan was the 2011 semi-final in Mohali. He signed off with 85 off 115 balls, a knock featuring 11 fours, as India posted 260/9 batting first.

It was not his most fluent knock, but resulted in Team India winning the knockout clash by 29 runs and progressing to the final, which they won by defeating Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.


Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma among India’s leading run-scorers in the ODI World Cup against Pakistan

While Tendulkar sits atop the illustrious list of Indian batters with most runs in the ODI World Cup against Pakistan, he is followed by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Kohli has 193 runs from three innings at an average of 64.33 and a strike rate of 91.03, with one hundred and one fifty.

As for current Team India skipper Rohit, he has 155 runs from two innings at an average of 77.50 and a strike rate of 116.54, with a best score of 140.

Mohammad Azharuddin (118 runs from three innings) and Suresh Raina (110 runs from two innings) complete the top five among Team India batters with most runs in the men’s ODI World Cup against Pakistan.
