"The match started and it ended" - Aakash Chopra on Delhi Capitals' IPL 2024 win vs Gujarat Titans

Aakash Chopra has noted that the IPL 2024 clash between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) virtually ended as soon as it started.

The Capitals bowled the Titans out for a paltry 89 after asking them to bat first in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, April 17. The visitors then chased down the target with six wickets and 67 deliveries to spare to climb above their opponents into sixth position on the points table.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra observed that the Gujarat Titans suffered a collapse, with virtually all the Delhi Capitals bowlers being among the wickets.

"The match started and it ended. Delhi won the toss and decided to bowl. Wickets fell one after the after. Whoever came to bat, got out, and whoever came to bowl, picked up wickets, whether it was Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar or Khaleel Ahmed. The only bowler who didn't get a wicket was Kuldeep Yadav." he said (11:45).

While noting that Rashid Khan was the only GT batter to provide some resistance, the former India opener added that Sai Sudharsan threw away his wicket while attempting a non-existent single.

"The innings folded up at 89. You scored very few runs and no one's bat fired. Rashid Khan scored a few runs. Sai Sudharsan was on a suicide mission. He ran after tying a shroud and got run out, and the team got bowled out very quickly," Chopra elaborated.

Rashid Khan top-scored for the Titans with a 24-ball 31. Sudharsan (12 off 9), who was the hosts' second-highest run-scorer, was found short of the crease by a direct hit from Sumit Kumar,

Reflecting on the Delhi Capitals' chase, Aakash Chopra noted that Jake Fraser-McGurk gave them a flying start before both openers were dismissed.

"When it was the turn to bat, Delhi came with a fantastic approach and they roared. Jake Fraser-McGurk started with a six. He felt it wasn't cricket but baseball. So he came and hit sixes but got out. After that, Sandeep Warrier dismissed Prithvi Shaw with a bouncer," he said (12:20).

While questioning Shubman Gill for not introducing his spinners early, the cricketer-turned-commentator observed that the Delhi Capitals completed an easy win.

"Then I didn't understand why Sandeep Warrier was given a third over because I felt Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad would be brought early. He picked up a wicket in that over, dismissed Abhishek Porel, but conceded 23 runs as well. After that, Rashid came and Shai Hope got out. Then Rishabh Pant was there with Sumit Kumar, and the match got over," Chopra stated.

Chopra concluded by comparing the game to a balloon with holes during Holi or a dud cracker during Diwali. In terms of balls to spare, it was the Delhi Capitals' biggest win in IPL history.
