Mumbai Indians' Ishan Kishan fined for breaching the IPL code of conduct during the 2024 IPL game against Delhi Capitals

Mumbai Indians wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been fined 10 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL code of conduct during the 2024 IPL game against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 27, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

In an official statement released by the IPL, it was stated that the 25-year-old admitted to the offense and accepted Match Referee Vengalil Narayanan Kutty's sanction. Hardik Pandya's men, who won the reverse fixture at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7 by 29 runs, suffered a 10-run defeat against the Delhi Capitals in Delhi on Saturday evening. The official statement read:

"Kishan committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding."

Although the organizers didn't shed light on Ishan Kishan's offense, Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as "hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings."

Mumbai Indians lose to Delhi Capitals in away game

Chasing a mammoth 258 runs for their fourth victory of the 2024 IPL, the Mumbai Indians batters gave their all but fell 10 runs short against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. While Ishan Kishan managed to score just 20 runs off 14 balls, young Tilak Varma yet again top-scored for the franchise, amassing 63 runs off just 32 balls, including four fours and as many sixes.

In addition to Tim David's 17-ball 37-run knock, skipper Hardik Pandya, who has faced criticism for his poor outing with the bat this season, also contributed to his side, scoring 46 runs off 24 balls. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for the Men in Blue who eventually fell short of the target by finishing at 247-9 in 20 overs.

It was the sixth loss in nine matches the five-time winners have played this season. The Mumbai Indians are placed ninth in the standings with six points. Next up, they will be traveling to Lucknow for another away fixture at the Ekana Stadium against the Super Giants.
