Marlon Samuels involved in sledging incident with Matthew Wade

Marlon Samuels, the star of West Indies’ ICC World T20 triumph, was involved in a verbal spat with the Australian wicket-keeper batsman Mathew Wade during the fifth ODI of the ongoing tri-series. The small period of play of one over from Adam Zampa witnessed some high drama. The young leg spinner’s over consisted of a dropped catch on the first ball, three consecutive sixes thereafter, and finally ended with a runout. Samuels was batting confidently while chasing a target of 266 in 50 overs, when Wade tried to distract the batsman with some sledging. After being dropped on the first ball of the over, Samuels smashed the next two balls for huge sixes. The wicket keeper tried to break the concentration of the Caribbean batsman and was eventually successful. On the fourth ball, Samuels was run out by a spectacular throw from Wade. The men in yellow are known for playing dirty mind game against their opponents.

While going back to the pavilion Wade had a small chat with the West Indian batsman, who scored 92 runs off 87 balls with the help of eight fours and four sixes, and West Indies went on to win the game by four wickets .

After West Indies elected to field after winning the toss, Australia could manage 265 for the loss of 7 wickets with the help of Usman Khawaja’s 98, who fell two runs short of his maiden ODI ton. Steve Smith, the captain, and George Bailey also contributed to Australia’s total .The Caribbeans batted confidently and chased down the target quite comfortably with almost four overs remaining . Apart from Samuel’s 98, Johnson Charles and Darren Bravo also contributed scoring 48 and 39 respectively .The match also witnessed the debut of, Travis Head, who became Australia’s 213th ODI player. The successful Big Bash player failed to impress on his debut, scoring just one run.

In the tri-series featuring the hosts West Indies, World No.1 Australia, and South Africa, Australia are leading the points table with 9 points, followed by West Indies with 8 points and South Africa are at the bottom with 5 points. Australia definitely missed David Warner in the game, who is out of the tri-series after he suffered a finger injury in the last game against South Africa while fielding.

Marlon was also involved in a verbal spat with the Australian legendary spinner Shane Warne in a Big Bash game and with England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes.
