Mumbai Indians are the only team who has outperformed Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. In the 14 matches played between these two teams, MI have won eight of those matches.

The two teams have played thrice this season – twice in the regular league season and once in the playoffs. While Mumbai Indians won both the league fixtures, CSK got the better of MI when it matters the most – in the playoffs.

Mumbai have a very good record at Eden Gardens, winning five out of the six games they have played there. Super Kings’ record is also not bad either, with four wins in five matches.

In the finals, the Super Kings’ top order has an outstanding record, as Suresh Raina averages 60 at the strike-rate of 168, M Vijay averages 54 at strike-rate of 158, and Michael Hussey averages 58.50 at strike-rate of 133.

Rohit Sharma has the best record against the Super Kings among all the Mumbai Indians batsman. He has scored 248 runs at an average of 35 in eight innings. On the bowling front, Lasith Malinga is the most successful Mumbai Indians bowler, with 19 wickets at an average of 18 and economy of 7.04 against the Super Kings.

The average first innings score in the Final of previous IPL editions is 174.

This season, it seems bowlers have had the last laugh as more batsmen have been dismissed than in any other previous season – 891.

What’s next in store for teams: With the curtains coming down on the IPL this season, both teams will reflect on pros and cons in the IPL this season before shifting focus to the CL T20 which starts in a few months time.
