If there is any player who comes close to Virat Kohli in white-ball cricket it is the vice-captain of India, Rohit Sharma. Since opening the innings, Rohit Sharma has shown a different level of consistency. He has been phenomenal in the limited overs formats.

In T20Is he has an exceptional record with four centuries to his name. His IPL numbers are right up there with the others. All this is only about his individual performance. Add to that, he has captained the Mumbai team from 2013 and already won them three titles. He has shown that he has the tactical ability to captain any team. It’s not easy to handle a team which has so many star players.

Every time Rohit Sharma brings something new to the table. Last year not many expected Mayank Markande to play in the XI, but he has been given a go, and he was really good. There are many such instances like these.

He is also one of the best white-ball openers if not the best but still doesn’t open for his franchise. Having said that he is going to be dangerous wherever he bats. He has broken many records in the IPL but let’s have a look at what records he can break in the next edition of the IPL.

#3 First Indian to hit 200 sixes

In the international circuit, Rohit has broken many records with his number of sixes but now it’s time that he does it in the IPL as well. Chris Gayle has the most big hits with 292 sixes to his name.

Even though that seems a bit far, Rohit can become the first Indian to smash 200 sixes in the IPL. At the moment there are three Indians in the race. MS Dhoni is slightly ahead with 186 sixes, Suresh Raina is behind him with 185 and then comes Rohit Sharma with 184 sixes.

If Rohit hits 16 more sixes before Dhoni and Raina hit 14 and 15 respectively then he will become the first Indian to reach the 200 mark. We have seen that Rohit Sharma has the ability to hit it big and it wouldn’t be surprising if he becomes the first Indian to do so.

#2 Most 50s in the IPL

In the shortest format, all the batsmen don’t get enough time to score a century, so if a batsman has made a half-century it’s a fantastic performance. In the IPL as well a batsman’s success is measured in terms of the 50s and 30s rather than 100s.

Rohit Sharma has been brilliant in the IPL as a batsman, and so he is right up there with the number of 50s. He is currently fourth on the list with 34 fifties to his name. David Warner and Gautam Gambhir top the list with 36, while Suresh Raina is just behind them with 35. Rohit Sharma just needs some more fifties to top this list.

Gambhir doesn’t play the game anymore whereas Warner might not be available for the whole IPL due to national duties. Rohit has a great opportunity to break the record for the most fifties in this edition of the IPL.

#1 Most IPL trophies as captain

As mentioned earlier, people got to know the tactical abilities of Rohit Sharma through the IPL. He has been a really smart captain for the Mumbai Indians. He was asked to captain way back in 2013 in difficult circumstances, and he delivered in the first season itself with a trophy.

Since then, he has two more IPL trophies to his name as captain in 2015 and 2017. Rohit Sharma even got to captain India because of his success in the IPL as captain. In the international circuit as well he has done well whenever he has got the chance to lead the side.

At the moment, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are the two captains who are tied with three IPL trophies to their name. Both have a chance to hold the record if they win this season. Looking at the trend, MI has won in 2013, 2015 and then 2017 it’s perfectly set up for Rohit Sharma to break the record in 2019 and win his fourth IPL title.
