MLB’s senior vice-president for diversity, equity & inclusion, Billy Bean, led a team for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the Big Climb in Citi Field on May 18, 2024. The LLS Big Climb at the Mets' home stadium was set up to raise awareness and raise up the fight to find an effective cure for blood cancer.

The team went up and down the iconic upper-tier steps of Citi Field, experiencing the high-energy environment in one of the most recognized stadiums in the MLB.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society had earlier talked about their awareness run with Billy Bean, who immediately jumped on the plan. He also went ahead to lead the pack on Saturday as the Mets were on the road, taking on the Marlins in a three-game NL East series.

New York completed their series against the Marlins at Loan Depot Park with a win in the series finale. The win on Sunday was just a consolation for the struggling Mets unit, as they lost the series 2-1 to their NL rivals. New York is now 21-25 for the season and occupies the third spot in the NL East.

Although it's a lot early to start thinking about the MLB postseason wildcard spots, the Mets are 12 games behind a wildcard spot as the Phillies in the NL East and Dodgers in the NL West are ramping up the wins this season.

The LLS Big Climb at Citi Field had other activities alongside the major awareness drive

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's awareness-spreading drive at the Big Climb in Citi Field had other fun-filled activities on the side to make the event a memorable one for the volunteers and initiative takers on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

The registration tickets were sold for as low as $40 and $50 before the event and their activities for climbers of every age group with a chance to explore the Base Camp as well.

The respective drive groups then led their march to the upper concourse along with their group members as they saw the names and faces of those who survived and lost their lives to blood cancer.

The event kicked off with a powerful opening ceremony, which ended with every participant receiving a medal for successfully completing the drive at the end, which was accompanied by loud cheers and motivational music all along to cap the leukemia & lymphoma society's awareness day at Citi Field.
