India’s surprise athletics package Lalita Babar became the country’s first female athlete after PT Usha to qualify for an athletics event. However, in some bad news coming in this morning, the 25-year old has suffered a knee injury after falling down in her heat two days ago. Sources close to Sportskeeda confirmed that she is in a lot of pain and will be racing the final with an injury.

A source close to Lalita said, “She was okay after the run, but post her recovery period we realised that she has sustained a knee injury. During training the next day, she complained of cramps and pain in the knee and her timing was a bit slower than usual. We hope it doesn’t act up during the final. If it does, we can’t help it these things happen in sport. But, Lalita is a fighter and she will fight through it till the last moment.”

The final is scheduled for 111:15 IST, Lalita finished seventh overal destroying the National Record by more than 7 seconds.
