The picturesque coastal city of Hangzhou will host the 2022 Asian Games

The coastal city of Hangzhou has been confirmed as the host of the 2022 Asian Games after it was the only candidate in the race for hosting the 2022 Games. The Olympic Council of Asia signed a contract with officials from the Chinese city with a population of over 9 million people during a meeting at Turkmenistan on Wednesday.

OCA president Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahad al-Sabah, addressing the press said that they were the only city to apply for the Asian Games and that he was looking forward to working with them, “I know it’s the only candidate, but also it has achieved a lot of our goals,” he said.

Hangzhou mayor Zhong Hongming, promised that the level of the games will be at the highest level and would help in the development of the city, “The Asian Games ... will play a very big role in the development of the city, and we promise that the games will be hosted at the highest level,” he said.

Beijing will be hosting the Winter Olympics in 2022, so it will be a big year for China in terms of sport. China also held the Asian Games in Beijing in 1990 and in Guangzhou in 2010, along with the beautiful display of tradition during the 2008 Olympic in Beijing.

Vietnam was originally supposed to host the Asian Games in 2019 but pulled out at the last minute due to financial concerns. Indonesia stepped in after that and will host the games in Jakarta and Palembang. Indonesia also moved the event forward a year to avoid a clash with national elections.
