Wrestling fans shared their disappointment with an unfortunate update regarding a former WWE Superstar. The talent in question is Athena, formerly known as Ember Moon.

The War Goddess has been dominating Ring of Honor (ROH) as the promotion's Women's World Champion, having won the title from Mercedes Martinez at ROH Final Battle 2022. Athena's recent work with Billie Starkz and Lexy Nair as Minion Training Session has captured a substantial fan following. However, according to a new update, the 35-year-old star may potentially be out of commission for some time.

A recent report from PWInsider revealed that The Minion Overlord had sustained an injury in her left leg during ROH TV tapings this Thursday. The update claims that the injury occurred during a spot in Athena's match against Viva Van. The former WWE Superstar managed to finish the bout, despite her noticeable limp, and was helped to the back by officials after the matchup. No exact details are available regarding the nature of the injury or her in-ring future.

Fans flocked to X/Twitter to share their reactions to the news regarding Athena's injury. One user brought up the comparatively more relaxed schedule of former Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, seemingly suggesting that such a schedule might prove to be beneficial for the safety of top stars like the current ROH Women's World Champion.

Another fan criticized AEW and Tony Khan for not featuring Athena more prominently on All Elite Wrestling programming.

Other users shared their responses to the update, remarking on the recent spate of injured talent.

Before signing with the Jacksonville-based promotion, Athena was a part of WWE for six years, achieving success in NXT, where she won the NXT Women's Championship and the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship. The War Goddess was released by the Stamford-based promotion in 2021, after which she competed in the independent circuit before jumping ship to the Tony Khan-led promotion in 2022, confronting former TBS Champion Jade Cargill at the AEW Double or Nothing Pay-Per-View.

Athena claimed that she was tiers above former WWE Superstar Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, is yet another former WWE Superstar who joined AEW earlier this year on Dynamite: Big Business. The CEO was one of the most accomplished performers in the women's division of the sports entertainment juggernaut and is set to make her in-ring debut in the Tony Khan-led promotion at the AEW Double or Nothing 2024 Pay-Per-View, where she will face Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship.

Athena addressed The Boss' arrival in the Jacksonville-based company during an appearance on the Good Karma Wrestling podcast. Despite praising Mone's addition to the roster as a game-changer for the AEW women's division, The War Goddess went on to claim that regardless of Mercedes' star power, she was "tiers above" the 32-year-old star.
