5 twists that can happen at Sting's retirement match

On the October 18, 2023, episode of AEW Dynamite, Sting shocked the wrestling world by announcing his retirement match would be at AEW: Revolution, set for March 3. Since then, his matches have become more entertaining and full of risky spots as time progresses. His entry into AEW is the culmination of an incredible journey that started way back in 1985 in the Continental Wrestling Association and includes runs in WCW and WWE.

His current storyline, where he's possibly set to face The Young Bucks at his retirement match at AEW: Revolution, has created hype. His retirement match could truly be the end of an era, and the audience should gear up for an extremely thrilling and entertaining experience. One of the ways to add thrill to a match is to put in a fascinating twist or two.

With the amount of time the Icon has spent in the ring, several wrestlers and wrestling entities could add a twist to his final match. Here are five possible twists that could happen in his retirement match storyline.

#5. Darby Allin Turns on Sting and Ric Flair

Darby Allin has been Sting's partner for the longest time in AEW, and he matches the Icon move to move. However, tag team members are prone to be betrayed - and if Allin decides to do so at Revolution, it will be at the most vulnerable moment for the WWE Hall of Famer. Allin could take revenge for the dangerous spot that his tag-team partner allowed the young wrestler to fall in at Dynamite: Homecoming.

Once Allin turns, The Icon and Flair can conclude that they have a few more matches in them - and possibly have Sting face Darby Allin at All In.

#4. Ric Flair turns on the team, and only Allin has to avenge the defeat later

Ric Flair has been through several tag teams and stables to know that someone usually turns at the end. He'd be smart enough to do so himself, aligning with the team that seems to be marked as the face-painted wrestlers' opponents at Revolution, the Young Bucks, after their smoldering return at Dynamite. After all, the youngsters will need a manager at the end of it all.

With this, Ric Flair gets another AEW storyline to join, and he also brings to an end the rivalry he has had with The Icon since their WCW days.

#3. The Patriarchy joins Young Bucks, Adam Copeland comes in to save the day, and a triple threat match is set up for later

It is difficult to forget that Adam Copeland was included in a feud that saw Sting stand up against what's now the Patriarchy. It's quite a possibility that the match that has Young Bucks face off with Allin and Sting can be invaded by The Patriarchy, only to be stopped by The Rated R Superstar - as he did at WrestleDream.

This could possibly set up a triple-threat match of some sort for a later date. Adam Copeland, who was briefly the TNT World Champion, will surely have something more for his real-life friend, Christian Cage.

#2. Sting loses, becomes General Manager, and Tony Khan makes his first 'in character' appearance

Many fans have been clamoring for Tony Khan's version of Mr. McMahon's 'strut.' A Sting loss could be the best platform for Khan to show off his skills of walking infuriated to the ring.

And this time, frustrated by how someone - anyone betraying and causing the fall of the Vigilante, TK would create a whole new role in the company - that of a General Manager. The crowd should then gear up for months of punishing matches for everyone involved in the betrayal.

#1. Goldberg makes his AEW debut to save Sting from a loss

There's a high chance that the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion's final match in AEW will have some kind of stipulation. Stipulations lead to complicated scenarios, and sometimes, these scenarios need a Jackhammer to be solved. And who better than Bill Goldberg to put a Jackhammer through things?

It's entirely possible that Tony Khan wants to start the year with a bang and decides to sign up Goldberg - even if it is just one match - and give the audience another moment when Sting and Goldberg are in the ring together.
