WWE Day 1 Results: New Champion crowned; Hall Of Famer returns

We learned right before WWE Day 1 started that Roman Reigns had tested positive for COVID-19 and would be unable to compete tonight.

Brock Lesnar was instead added to the WWE Championship match against Big E, making it a Fatal Five-Way. The WWE Day 1 kickoff show saw Sheamus and Ridge Holland defeat Cesaro and Ricochet before we headed to the main card.


The Usos (c) vs. The New Day - SmackDown Tag Team title match at WWE Day 1

Woods and Jimmy started off the match and New Day isolated Jimmy early on before he dropped Kofi on the apron. Jey tagged in and Kofi was being manhandled in the ring as the match went on.

Kingston took some superkicks from Jey in the ring but managed to counter into a DDT before making the tag to Woods. Jey was on the ropes and Woods hit a dropkick to the neck before hitting the Side Russian Leg Sweep and a neckbreaker for a near fall at Day 1.

Jimmy tagged in and hit a corkscrew from the ropes before getting a near fall. Jey was back in and hit a pop-up Samoan Drop for another near fall. Jey and Woods traded strikes before Kofi tagged back in and got a top rope crossbody for a near fall.

Jimmy was back in and went after Kofi's injured knee with a submission but Kingston broke out of it.

The Usos hit double superkicks on Kofi after dropping Woods on the apron and got the double splashes but Woods broke up the pin.

Woods took a superkick on the outside before The Usos hit a 3D, The Dudley Boyz' finisher, on Kofi in the ring for the win at Day 1.

Result: The Usos def. The New Day to retain the SmackDown Tag Team titles

Big E was backstage at WWE Day 1 and said that he was walking out of the arena tonight as the Champion. The Migos were backstage and teased an in-ring appearance.


Madcap Moss vs. Drew McIntyre at WWE Day 1

Madcap Moss and Baron Corbin came out first at WWE Day 1 and made some jokes about Drew before the match started. McIntyre got a big tackle early on before the match went outside and Moss took a big Belly-to-belly suplex.

Moss sent Drew into the ring post before we got back in the ring and Madcap dropped McIntyre into the corner with some big strikes.

McIntyre dodged a spear in the corner before getting back in control with some big suplexes and a neckbreaker.

Drew was caught in a near fall off a Fallaway slam before he hit Moss with the Futureshock DDT. Drew countered a shot on the ropes but Moss dodged the first Claymore attempt.

Drew tried a second time and got the finisher in before picking up the win.

Result: Drew McIntyre def. Madcap Moss

Kevin Owens was backstage at WWE Day 1 and said that Brock Lesnar was a bully and that he would talk to Seth about how to deal with The Beast Incarnate.


RK-Bro (c) vs. The Street Profits - RAW Tag Team Title match at WWE Day 1

The Migos came out with RK-Bro and joined the announce team at WWE Day 1 for the match. Riddle and Dawkins kicked off the match and Ford was tagged in early on and came in with a big dropkick on The Original Bro.

Randy got the tag and Ford taunted him before being taken down after The Viper went for his eyes as the referee looked away. Riddle came back and so did Dawkins before the former took the silencer.

Ford was back in and got a near fall on Riddle but Randy broke it up. Dawkins was back in and got a big splash in the corner before Montez joined him and landed some big kicks in the corner.

Orton came back in and set up for the double draping DDT on the ropes and hit it on both the Profits.

RK-Bro (c) vs. The Street Profits - RAW Tag Team Title match at WWE Day 1 (contd...)

The Profits dodged RKOs before Riddle came in at Day 1 and took out Dawkins on the outside. Ford hit a big dive to the outside on Riddle as WWE Day 1 continued and Randy and Riddle came in for the Flying RKO double team finish on Montez for the win.

Result: RK-Bro def. The Street Profits to retain the RAW Tag Team Titles

Backstage at WWE Day 1, Drew McIntyre was in an interview when Madcap and Corbin attacked him. They used a steel chair and put it on his head before Corbin smashed him with a steel frame from the set.


Brock Lesnar was in an interview and said that he was a free agent and could challenge any superstar he wanted thanks to his advocate Paul Heyman before saying he would walk out of WWE Day 1 with the WWE title.


The Miz vs. Edge at WWE Day 1

Edge got a fiery Brood entrance before the match kicked off. The Hall Of Famer got the first takedown in the match but The Miz came back with an arm drag before the two traded submissions in the ring.

The Miz got out of a Crossface in the ring as WWE Day 1 continued. Maryse caused a distraction, letting Miz drive Edge into the ring post on the outside. The A-Lister missed the double dropkick in the corner before trying for the Skull Crushing Finale.

The Miz got a near fall off a DDT before Edge dropped him face-first from the apron to the outside. The Miz sent the Rated-R Superstar into the announcer's desk a few times before trying for the Skull Crushing Finale on the table but Edge reversed it.

Back in the ring, Miz went for the Figure-Four leglock but Edge managed to reverse it.

Miz transitioned to the STF but it was broken up before Miz tried to use the ropes to get the pin. But the ref stopped the count as WWE Day 1 continued.

Edge got the crossface in and Maryse put Miz's foot on the ropes to break it up. Both men took each other out with big boots before Edge hit a huge top rope hip toss. Edge missed the Spear and Maryse hit him with a cheap shot from the outside.

The Miz got the Skull Crushing Finale off the distraction but failed to get the pin at WWE Day 1. Beth Phoenix made her return and chased Maryse off from ringside and the distraction allowed Edge to get the spear in for the win.

Result: Edge def. The Miz

Bobby Lashley and MVP were backstage at WWE Day 1 and the latter said that Lashley doesn't fear Brock Lesnar.


Becky Lynch (c) vs. Liv Morgan - RAW Women's title match at WWE Day 1

Morgan took Becky outside the ring and smacked her head on the announce desk before the match went back to the ring. Morgan got an elbow in the corner and the double stomp before getting a near fall.

Becky left the ring to catch a breather before coming back with some kicks from the apron. Liv dropped her from the top rope for another near fall before Becky came back with a close call of her own.

Morgan was caught on the ropes and took a leg drop from the top before getting an exploder suplex.

Becky Lynch (c) vs. Liv Morgan - RAW Women's title match at WWE Day 1 (contd...)

Morgan was down in the corner as WWE Day 1 continued and the Champ was in control but Liv managed to send Becky into the turnbuckles. The Man tried for the Disarmher but Morgan reversed it.

Lynch got the disarmher again but Morgan broke it up again. Morgan got the missile dropkick and Becky rolled out of the ring.

Morgan laid Becky down on the steel steps and stomped on her arm before dropping her from the top rope and locking in the Rings of Saturn.

Becky reversed the hold before Morgan tried for the ObLIVion. Becky dodged the move and landed the Manhandle Slam for the win.

Result: Becky Lynch def. Liv Morgan to retain RAW Women's title

Seth Rollins was backstage at WWE Day 1 and said that his one-on-one match with Big E somehow turned into a fatal five-way but Rollins was still confident about his chances.


Johhny Knoxville from Jackass showed up in a promo at WWE Day 1 and said that he will be joining the Royal Rumble match this year.

Longtime fans may remember that Umaga destroyed former Jackass stars Steve-O and Chris Pontius on the 'RAW Goes Hollywood' special back in 2006.


Big E (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar - WWE Championship match at WWE Day 1

Owens and Rollins unloaded on Lesnar as the match began but Brock hit multiple suplexes on both men as Big E and Lashley brawled outside the ring. E was sent into the ring post by Lashley before The All Mighty speared Brock through the barricades.

Rollins and Owens recovered and KO hit a splash on Brock before using the steel steps to take out Lashley and Lesnar. Owens and Rollins cleared the announcer's desk before trying to send Lashley into it.

KO and Rollins failed but Big E came in and sent Lashley through the announce desk before KO and Rollins hit a double DDT on Lesnar on top of the steel steps at Day 1.

Big E (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar - WWE Championship match at WWE Day 1 (contd..)

Back in the ring at WWE Day 1, Rollins and Owens got near falls on Big E. Lesnar rushed in and hit F5s on Rollins, Big E, and Owens before taking a Spear from Lashley. Lashley tried for a pin but The Beast Incarnate kicked out.

Lashley got the Hurt Lock on Lesnar but he broke out of it. Brock hit the F5 on Big E and picked up the title win, shocking the WWE Universe.

Result: Brock Lesnar def Big E to become the new WWE Champion!

We got a great start to the year with WWE Day 1 although the biggest match on the card had to be canceled due to Roman Reigns' COVID-19 result. We wish Roman a swift recovery and eventual return to WWE television.

We got some great matches tonight with The Usos, RK-Bro, and Becky Lynch retaining their titles while Big E lost his gold to Brock Lesnar.
